One Knackered Diff!!

Two weeks ago I had an MOT on the Formula 27 kit car I own. During the test it became apparent that both the rear wheels had some play in them. At this stage I thought that both the bearings had gone due to the previous owner using some nice universal spacers that were not hub centric….

I ordered up some bearings and the night before Marham Tony and I replaced both of them to get the car ready for the weekend. But… After replacing both the bearings and fitting some hub centric spacers the play was still there…..

I then decided to ring a friend of mine who deals with the old English axles a lot to ask if it was normal for them to have some slight play. He responded that they do have abit so I decided as the car has been like it since I owned it that we would just have to see how it went at Marham. The whole weekend went fine but I still wanted to find out why it has some play so decided to take the diff out and see if the bearings in there were screwed.

So yesterday I had the day off and after an hour it finally was out.

This is what I found

Looks like the pinion has been hitting the LSD casing

And that those LSD plates and covers should be one piece

Looking forward now to get the spare diff i have in and see how it handles now :D

One good bit of news though is i got the Turbo manifold back from the fabricators :eyebrows:

That looks great mate :D Nice to see all those runners cleaned up properly..

Give me shout if you still need that 90o stainless pipe.

Will do mate, Going to track it abit as it is at present to get used to the car and then get the turbo on.

Will be fitting and mapping the emerald first though.

Pretty much have everything to fit the turbo now mate but will most likely fit it in a couple of monthes time as really want to get used to the cornering without another 80bhp on top
