A mechanic at the local Toyota garage says my diff bearings are shot :( - my question is, now i have completed the N/A -TT conversion, should i just replace these bearings or go for TT rear diff set up and what would it entail on my N/A body?? :search:

what were the symptoms, how has he come to that conclusion ?

He showed me play in the shafts :innocent: to diff and rolled the prop shaft and it did look as though there was play - i took it in as i had a popping/clunking sound on braking (it was a free inspection) to diagnose the prob.

He said the bearings were worn and needed changing or the diff uprating as now TT :search:

There's always lift in the side bearings, there SHOULD be backlash in the CWP. Sounds as if it's something totally different to me, and it'll still do it even if you fit side bearings or another axle unit.

I thought this Chris as i thought i had a collapsed rear bearing or something as per the "clunk" and "grate" sound on braking but he did not want to road test it!!! 'cos i had a freebie i imagine

cheers
