SupraPito
simple stuff, but the car has been garaged for a while, battery is fine, the starter motor clicks but does not fire the engine. The car is an auto so rocking might not help, any suggestions?
RICHARDA
Most probably a sticky solenoid chum. This happened to my car also a while back.
RICHARDA
Oh if you can clout it with a hammer this may free it off to get the car started. HTH Rich
neilg
You sure the batterys fine? Mine garaged and ive buggered the battery. unless its fully charged it just clicks Other than that no idea
RICHARDA
Mine is always fully charged as I use a trickle charger. See what you mean though as if left for a long time with the alarm on it will eventually result in a flat battery.
SupraPito
problem solved, it was battery even though all the electrics seemed fine. RichardA, where did you get your trickle charger from, Halfords? seems like a wise investment. Phil
RICHARDA
Yes it was Halfrauds, only cost a tenner, Draper one if my memory serves me right. Had it about three years now.
Terminator
You want a charger with a "float" facility, which automatically keeps the charge rate matched to the needs of the battery. These are a bit more expensive than a basic charger but worth every penny, IMHO. I keep my car on float when ever it is off the road for more than a week. SupraStar 3000
I had this last weekend but it turned out to be a worn solenoid in the starter motor. Cost me £200 for my local garage to re-move and refurbish the unit. Starts first time, every time now
G9RGE
i had the same problem before christmas, the problem is def your starter motor, mine started off just clicking if the battery was slightly low but got worse as time went on regardless of how much charge there was. If you search there are 2 part numbers listed, i ordered them from toyota cost about £20, jacked the supe up and took the starter off, (not the easiest of jobs). Changed the old bits for the new ones and its as good as new now. toyota wanted about £240 4 another starter so very happy.
