Id doesnt matter how high the tention is, you will still unclip in a crash
AndrewOW
When I got my cycling shoes and Shimano SPD pedals, I just made them loose enough so I could get my shoes into them, so I could 'pull out' in any dodgy situation (ooer). I soon tightened them up as it was great using them without any real issues, but don't forget to twist your feet when you come to a halt. It could be nasty! miles
set them up so you have maximum float on them and gradually tighten them as you get more confident as above. have you had the obligatory fall at the traffic lights lol.
Shadow Beast
cheers guys, not had a fall yet as i have been on cages for about 6 weeks, but i have a triathlon next weekend and wanted to go with SPD's going to go out tomorrow and try them, i have been out and turned them right down, they seem to unclip quite easy, on the route tomorrow, there is only 3 roundabouts in 20 miles, so if i plan it right i should not stop till i am back at the house!! will prob fall off at the front door now you watch! cheers for the advice, i will update tomorrow, if not in A&E!! richie
Pot
I used to use SPD's about 14-15 years ago, I got used to unclipping a leg at a junction really quickly (never toppled over, it just became 2nd nature), but trust me, should you have a 'mishap', like finding a telegraph pole in the middle of a downhill track up a hill by me, and hitting it very hard... You'll unclip when you come off... I think it's down to the automatic reflex of the body, when it tries to avoid the 'more delicate' parts of the body hitting the stem... Imagine if you were going to be kicked in the 'more delicate parts', the knees turning inwards in the 'ooooohhhhh' phase give enough movement for them to clip out
Shadow Beast
well, just got back from a ride, didn't require an ambulance to cart me off to A&E was a bit nervous to start with, but after a few quick unclips i am very happy to use them. I cant believe the difference it makes going form cages to these. cheers for the advice guys. richie
