SilverSoop
That is condensation mate....... Yeh thought it was because lockys 96 gets the same thing as i do but it only happens on a very cold morning. But very rarely like once, it puffed out a bit of white smoke while it was up to temperature while i was letting her cool down when i got to work... DannoSupra
Just to add... Just drove 40miles to my mums, no smoke... as soon as i pulled up outside her's. let it tickover for a bit. after 2-3seconds BAM SMOKEY JOE! Blipped the throttle and i looked like a 007 Smoke Screen... It might come in handy with the Five-

Swampy442
Nah thats classic turbos. With no rotation and dynamic forces to tighten the oil seal it leaks. Same happened to mine

DannoSupra
No point in me taking the head off tomorrow then no? Engine out and rebuild for single turbo it'll be then!
Mike M
I reckon you'd better start thinking about changing those stem seals as at 98k they're probably on borrowed time anyway. Its gonna be a cheaper job than replacing the turbos because their seals may or may not be on their merry way to the skip. With the new stem seals you'll know for sure then. Or alternatively buy a used set of tubbies for 200 quid and hope for the best. Depends how long your planning on keeping the car really.
DannoSupra
Im inbetween 2 minds of keeping or selling If i sell it, then i'll get the stem seals done - hoping it'll solve the smoking, and a few other cosmetic changes or if i keep, it's getting a respray with new skirts, overfender and new rear. along with an engine build good for 800hp, but run it around 500-600 with a 6spd conversion,. if i do all the bits then it'll be a 1-2yr project
AgtX80
find an import car specialist who will tell you for sure, as knowledgeabe as a lot of people are here, they dont have the car in front of them & no one can say which of the 2 is it for sure, with £££..£? involved, its worth giving an expert a hands on. Just wasting my money and giving someone else the benefit. Mine has started costing a lot of dosh this last couple of months and I keep looking at other cars but basically I'd probably lose more money in depreciation with a newer car than I would fixing this one up. Just keep telling myself it'll be a better car once the niggly bits are fixed. Maybe now is the time for the 1-2 year project to start with the engine build. Can still run stock tubbies with the super duper motor if your taking your time I guess. Can see why you'd be reluctant to do work on the engine if your thinking about full rebuilds though. AgtX80
you dont know if its turbo seals or stem seals....you can get an expert opinion for free you know....... One minute youre agreeing its stem seals, then someone says..no its turbo & you say ok, then someone goes back to stem seals.

T2 MSW
what sort of cost would you be looking at to get a garage to replace stem seals for you. And how difficult a job is it??
DannoSupra
I aint got a clue how much it would cost, all im paying for is parts... at the end of the day, yes i am a mechanic and the engine is half way out Think some garages woud charge about a grand, but there various ways of chaning, Head Off, Head In Sittue or Engine out
Swampy442
Shame youre not round Lincoln way, I could have boroscoped/endoscoped the combustion chambers and turbos to give a definate result. Wet turbines= oil seals, wet combustion chamber(s)=valve guides. Good luck with the repairs
DannoSupra
Got a bore scope and tbh, i thought why bother if the engine is coming out for a strip down and rebuild with AfterMarket goodies!! hehe
