kslb
Durf is not starting, It will turnover very slowly or just click. I have tested the batteries and they are fine and have replaced the contacts and plunger on the starter motor (Bitch of a job) but still no progress, same problem! Any ideas? SupraAyf
The biggest weakness on the Surf is the starter motor. A good number of good Surf importers actually change these prior to onward sale.

Chris Wilson
Check the phosphor bronze bushing in the end the pinion is at, if it's worn the armature will rub HARD on the stator coil pole pieces inside and create massive friction, hence very slow and laborious cranking, or locking up. A starter re furb place can fit a new bushing for a few quid. It may well be something else, so don't shout at me if you remove the damned thing again and it's OK.... You have tried jumping it from a running vehicle with a big battery, using pro quality leads first, haven't you?
kslb
Well the starter is defo fine. I removed it again, checked the brushes and even ran it off a power pack to make sure the solenoid and motor were both doing what they should so I will re fit it later this morning but I am awaiting a call from Barry Hemmings the Director of Rough Trax (Independent Toyota specialist) sothought I would wait to re fit until I have spoken to him. I have tried jumping it from a running vehicle with pro leads and tried a power pack start and tested the battery with a pro tester under load and all seems ok but not starting. I will post up the advice I get from Barry when he calls and hopefully that will help.
