AJI
the most user friendly I have found is Pinnacle Studio..... lots of nice drag and drop effects and simple editing previews before you apply them to your movie.
Digsy
I cannot recommend Puremotion Editstudio highly enough. However because Puremotion were a relatively small company very few people had ever heard of them, but their products had a very loyal followig in the AV world. Unfortunately they went under in 2007 and a company called MediaChance (http://www.mediachance.com) has taken over development. Looks like they already have a new version available for download ($89) I think you can download a full-featured 30 day demo version for free to try it out. Ian C
I concur with Digsy - he introduced me to PureMotion and I wouldn't use anything else now (although I didn't know they had gone under ). So that or its successor would be a good choice. It has no fluff or tat, it isn't trying to be cool or trendy (can't help but thing anything Adobe tries that far too hard), just gets the job done. -Ian
MrRalphMan
Is this software suitable for a amateur like me or is it more for the 'Pro' crew?
Pete
Sony Vegas. Very easy and the home studio edition is very cheap for the power it gives you.

MaveriK
Can you re-add the audio with any of your software? If so it may be worth ripping the audio out with winamp or something simular
Digsy
Can you re-add the audio with any of your software? If so it may be worth ripping the audio out with winamp or something simular EditStudio can splice and slice audio, mix tracks, adjust balance and volume, etc. If you want to add audio effects like echos or equalisation you'll be better off using proper audio editing kit. Tricky-Ricky
I am currently looking for some video software that handles AVCHD but doesn't take 12 hours to render 35 mins to disc:(
