Guigsy
I was trawling through youtube just looking at old musicians that i remember from when i was younger and found this little gem. I remember sitting infront of the fireplace when i was maybe about 4 or 5 playing with my lego and my mum would have this guys album on while she was doing ironing or dusting or something. But in particular this song. So i looked him up. I can remember almost every word of this song and its amazing! I used to play guitar a bit about 5-6 years ago and have hardly touched it since but this song has made me dig it out and look for the tab. What a great songwriter and performer. Take a look 7vY1peG8gHQ
AndrewOW
The song by Paper Lace, called Billy don't be a hero, from 1974 really sticks in my mind (I was 5). Sad eh?! Probably the first song I really noticed as a child.

Pete
I listened to Madonnas La Isla Bonita the other day and it really took me back to being about 13/14 on my first trip abroad to Portugal. Other than that the earliest tracks I can think of are "Hey Mickey" and Wham tunes (which I hated I'd like to add). Shaking Stevens - This ol'house and Green Door? Stand and Deliver - Adam Ant

Tannhauser
Janis Ian's "At Seventeen" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=efHOIT1ROk8 Incidentally, in terms of writing lyrics, I'd put her right up there with The Black-Eyed Peas. Ian: I learned the truth at seventeen That love was meant for beauty queens And high school girls with clear skinned smiles Who married young and then retired The valentines I never knew The Friday night charades of youth Were spent on one more beautiful At seventeen I learned the truth... And those of us with ravaged faces Lacking in the social graces Desperately remained at home Inventing lovers on the phone Who called to say "come dance with me" And murmured vague obscenities It isn't all it seems at seventeen... Peas: I met a girl down at the disco. She said hey, hey, hey yea let's go. I could be your baby, you can be my honey Let's spend time not money. I mix your milk wit my cocoa puff, Milky, milky cocoa, Mix your milk with my cocoa puff, milky, milky riiiiiiight.
