simbasupra
Am going to be looking at my brakes this afternoon or tommorow after work. Would just like to know if the symptom i describe sounds like pads moving in the carrier to you lot or something else. (I have checked the bolts are tight and it is nothing too serious) Basically when i gently brake (coming up to traffic lights) from about 20mph downwards i get a clunking noise. It is not one noise when i apply the brakes but is repetitive until i stop or take my foot back off the brake. I was thinking that if the subframe bolts were loose it would just be a single clonk when the vehcile shifted weight under braking or accelerating. I think i have got the shims in there allready, if it is this, is there any thing else i can do to stop the noise as it sounds quite bad (grease). Thanks. simbasupra
got the wheels off and there is a slight play in the pads in the carrier, they do have the shims on any other thoughts.
simbasupra
just took the pads out and pumped out the brake pedal to find only one piston moving freely. I think the others are moving but there is not enough force being applied to them. Does anyone think this could be sorted by bleeding the brakes? simbasupra
Just to let people know the pistons are sticking and whilst trying to free them up one has stuck out and will not go back in. So i will be getting a caliper overhaul kit.
simbasupra
not many comments on this one guys. where are you all? Will order the seal kit tomorrow, would you buy new pistons aswell or re-use them?
bignum
Depends how badly pitted they are, if the chrome has worn off they may stick again, oh its a messy job btw.
simbasupra
thanks, if not too expensive may get them done at the same time then, don't suppose anyone knows a rough price of the pistons?
merckx
Not sure about Toyota, if they're too expensive then here's an alternative place to get them. http://www.brakediscs.org.uk/company.html When the window appears with a list of Supra's then select the top one . Click on front Hydraulics (top right). If you click on "associated" on the 4 piston caliper it should bring up the following screen with the caliper service kits and pistons. R3DG3CKO ROB
I've got the same problem on my near side J-Spec Calliper... but the problem is much worse as I get a repeated rythmic thud noise with the wheel rotation... (all the time) spoke to a mechanic and he said that it's because the pad is at an angle it's bouncing off the disk...? It feels like there's something stuck to the tyre... I'm planning on replacing them with the UK brake kit in the next few weeks so really don't want to spend a huge amount on fixing the current ones...
