Hestitation at WOT not any other time

Right, the exact problem i am experiencing is this:

If I just gently accelarate up to 6800 or thereabouts, I have no problem, and its nice and smooth all the way. However, If I accelerate with WOT then I get to about 3500k - 4000k revs and it starts hesitating, still accelerating, but kind of holding back then letting go, but mostly holding back. unfortunately, I dont have a boost guage yet, but both CATS are in place and the only engine mods are a SARD cat back exhaust

Just wondering what can cause this, I have searched and the conclusion I have come to is that its either plugs (I havent touched them since it was imported for me from Japan) Coil packs (hope not as I'm spent up this month), or FCD :werd:

From my searches, If its Fuel Cut, then its quite violent and the dash will light up like a christmas tree, and I will hit my head on the windscreen :p

Plugs and coil packs cause similar problem, but no xmas tree lights and not as violent engine cut.

Can anyone add any other possible problems that it could be? or substanciate what I have found in the search engine.....

Thanks in advance for any insight into this.... :)

Mine did exactly the same (although after a decat), turned out to be wrongly gapped plugs. Its worth changing them even if its just to eliminate them as the cause, NGK's (can't recall the exact code) are only about £15 for a set.

yep sounds like plugs, if a coil pack goes down you'll be down on power all the time and the engine not will change too as you run on 5 rather than 6

could also be the fuel pump on the way out, but in my limited experience of supes, you dont hear of that happening much on this board

Definitely sounds like plugs. When you change the plugs also check the condition of the plastic connectors between the ht leads and coil pack, these get very brittle over time and break which can cause a bad connection.

Well, today I had every intention of going and getting some new plugs and sticking them in :)

Then the missus, wanted the stereo in first, so off I toddled, having bought all the stuff neededlast weekend anyway....I thought it would be a 5 - 10 min job  ...................

7 Hours later, 3 severe cuts to the knuckles, an aching shoulder, artheritis in my pointing finger on my right hand playing up. 15 mkivsupra.net searches, all is now done......... :innocent:

I will now be going to Halfrauds to get ripped off and get some plugs for the Supra tomorrow (Sunday) :flame Dev

Hopefully, I can post up my results after

I will do a search for those connector part numbers too, and get some ordered up, may as well if they are cheap enough!

Thanks again for all your help, lets hope it works tomorrow! :respekt:

Oh god........I cant believe how dumb I am............ :conf:  :twak:

I just remembered, last week, I washed the car, and in my wisdom, bought some engine bay degreaser.......Covered up all the electrical bits with plastic bags, made sure I followed the instructions to the letter, warming the engine first etc, washing the stuff off, then running the engine till its dry........

What I didnt do is worry about getting the water over the cam valley. Reading this post has made me think that I have actually just got water (probably in the coil packs)  :donkey:

Will this do any long term damage? or if I go and dry it, and run the engine for a couple of hours with the middle cover bit off will that fix it

I might go and try this first before I get some plugs.......
