dangerous brain
OK I have my MAC code in hand and am looking for a new ISP. Tiscali sooo didn't cut the mustard at all, goes to show that these free call deals etc you really aren't getting something for nothing as the connection speed was atrocious and the phone line wasn't swapped over from BT due to a technical fault they didn't bother to tell us about (cue a huge phone bill from BT as they both (tiscali and BT) sent us letters saying it had changed over). So you guys work in the industry and obviously spend a hell of a lot of time on the geekternet any recommendations? I'm only a home user but have my own company so could use a business deal if it was attractive. I don't download huge amounts but do view alot of utube vids from on here, spend about 5 hours a day trawling through forums with pictures of shiny cars (gawd how sad is that). Usage in peak times is minimal as the mrs watches telly and the child all day.
Pete
Everybody seems to have their favorites. Best thing is to look at independent review sites like: http://www.thinkbroadband.com/ http://bbs.adslguide.org.uk/ See what they think is the best. There are so many other factors as well as the provider such as quality of hardware, filters, even down to location within the house (phone line near sources of heat or high power?). As you state, the cheaper ones generally are skimping in some area.

Havard
I'm with plus.net and have found them to be excellent. Did everything when they said they would, sent me a free wireless router and all was set up within a couple of days! http://www.plus.net/residential/broadband/?WT.mc_id=sem_001a&WT.srch=1 H. Funny old thing since cancelling and being given my mac code my connection speed has jumped on a saturday to 6mb which considering the best I normally got the whole weekend was 100k or less shows my line and equipment is functioning fine. boxst
It depends what your criteria is really. AS above I would recommend BE, but as you are not in an enabled area I would recommend Zen http://www.zenadsl.com, BUT they are expensive.
