Getrag
(Matt H's description) To be honest, when I took the hoses off, there was a dribble of Optimax , nothing more.

Geezabloke
Thanks Getrag an excellent write up, and Jake, i will only use another UK pump......and i shall disconnect the pump and crank it over a few time to relieve the pressure. One thing no one has said (so im not sure its needed) should you drain the fuel tank first? And once again thanks for all the advise. Dave
Getrag
Didnt drain the fuel tank and didnt blow anything up lol. I would guess covering it up and shutting the boot while doing the soldering elsewhere is a good idea. It was kinda cool getting to see in it... Jake
should you drain the fuel tank first?I can't see it making any odds really. I did mine with a deliberately low tank but it doesn't really help, just as long as it's not brim-full.
Terminator
I can't remember if the banjo washers are copper or not but if they are heat them to red heat and allow to cool, they go soft again and make a much better seal.
Homer
If you want to stop fuel blowing out under pressure, just open the filler cap first - its will release the pressure in the tank and pipes.

Matt Harwood
I can't see the big deal with the UK pump really... It's bloody expensive when compared to a Walbro, and the Walbro can support plenty of power on it's own. I've still got one lonely Walbro pump on my car with it's single turbo fitted, and on the Dyno, it showed no sign of running low on fuel flow... Even with race fuel running 1.8 bar! OK, so it flows about 10% more fuel, but it costs 95% more, and if you did want to run more power that one pump could provide you have to spend out on either another UK pump, or replace it with two Walbro's Am I missing something? They must have fitted the larger Pumps for a reason though? They thought it was worthy even running standard boost when they were built? Im more confused than when i started now? But for peace of mind im sticking to the UK pump... Dave
Sharpie
I remeber Nathan paying to have some testing done a few years back http://www.tdi-plc.com/suprafuelpumpdata.html But, tbh I think I'm with Dave and will stick with the UK pump when I swap mine out just because it will be 10yrs old. michael
I seem to remember a big thread about the TDI pump ages ago - can't seem to find it now though. From those figures it seems that a new pump is definately wise, be it a Toyota one or another brand, I've always taken the approach of upgrading anything that needs replacing but this pump lark has me confused

So on paper the Walboro does flow more than a UK and uses a hell of a lot less current !!!!! Dude
Jake
On TDI's paper the testing they paid for showed that their pump flowed the the best and used the least Amps. What a surprise.

When you actually quote amounts of flow then its hard to argue Still if you dont mind 2nd best then the UK is good bet There is an argument for the UK but i cant remeber it right now im sure Tel can enlighten us Dude :flame Dev
CJ
Dude I have flow charts showing the UK outflows the Walbro's. Yes the draw more current, but not really the issue on a single pump I thought he already did?

Matt Harwood
They must have fitted the larger Pumps for a reason though? They thought it was worthy even running standard boost when they were built? They also used 550 injectors and had to cludge the wiring so the ECU could run them, they also stuck on friggin ugly horns... All three were unnecessary http://www.vortexpower.co.uk/images/sfrdyno.jpg
Andrew
You fitted this yet mate? I can lend a hand, but doubt you'd need it. Fitted a Walbro on Sunday, easy to do, only arsing about was with the wiring loom, but if you get the UK pump you won't have that problem.
