tooquicktostop
After several threads on the Ripspeed head unit DVD I thought I would post a fitted picture, got this done tonight and the unit looks OK in the car, I brought the screen that goes with it as well as my daughter likes to watch a movie on long trips, all in it was £150 ish pounds from Halfords, a couple of things to think about before you splash the cash for one of these in a Supra 1. The unit is single din size but the face is slightly larger so some cutting of the dash will be required to make it sit flush 2. It has a huge array of options (camera, amp, AV out etc) with cables at the back, these take up a lot of space and will be a squeeze to get into a single din slot behind the unit in a Supra 3. The controls are not very user friendly as in any other Ripspeed unit I have seen Positives, well its cheap, the screen is very good quality with a playstation etc input, it has remote control and the unit has good sound from the 4x50W set up http://img2.putfile.com/thumb/4/9917183229.jpg http://img2.putfile.com/thumb/4/9917183398.jpg http://img2.putfile.com/thumb/4/9917183327.jpg http://img2.putfile.com/thumb/4/9917183321.jpg

tooquicktostop
Would like to see it fitted in a MKIV Supra tho mate. Am having a s**t load of trouble trying to fit mine. That was the point of posting really as it will be a bugger to fit in a single din Supra slot as the facia it over size and I did not want anyone else facing the same issue of being tempted by the cheap price and then not being able to fit it correctly, I had to adapt the old cage from the Camaro to make it fit Had to happen though as it had an 8 track in it when I got it, who remembers those then hands up ! Epic
Supra's dont have single dins tho... am confused
tooquicktostop
Supra's dont have single dins tho... am confused The Supra has a double din, you can refit another double din or fit a single din and a cubby hole or a blanking plate, the issue with this unit is it is an over sized single din so you will only really get away with having a blanking plate made or a special sized cubby hole made IMO, you will not get this unit in with any other single din sized item without butchering the dash, does that make sense ? Schtuv
I bought a 730B Ripspeed head unit last week ... and the guy that came to install it (I had free fitting) has just left, after three hours of struggle ... - The unit had trouble when mounted at the top of the double din hole left, where the facia wouldn't close because it interfered with the dash - The usual halfords universal din pocket wouldn't fit in above it (I need a blanking plate), and forced the cage sides apart when it was installed - There was a lot of cable to fit in behind it, as noted above! I've piled the aux/sub/out rca leads on top of the unit, and will probably tape them there for easy access On the bright side, it sounds great (now the amp is bypassed by the pc-17-2-4/something cable), my parrot kit still works (the installer chopped it into the cabling for me), the aux cable's in and ready to go , and I feel I'm going to get my £99 worth out of it. Just as long as it doesn't go wrong and need removing lol EDIT 1: So I need a slightly-less-than-1-din blanking plate to go in, but it's worth noting no cutting of the dash was required! EDIT 2: I'll get some pics up later!
Schtuv
So where do people mount the 3.5mm jack for the aux? I've been thinking of having mine pop out either in the passenger glovebox (like the usb sockets in my friends Alfa), by the ashtray (aka the mobile phone holder with a lid), or putting a hole in the center console and feeding it into there. Schtuv
I still dont understand how you would get this fitted, there just no chance what so ever of mine fitting in!! and iv trimmed! its just to small top or bottom It appears as if mine is mounted at the bottom of the double din hole with the front of the head unit almost flush with the dash (a mm or 2 back), and with a small (1mm?) gap at the bottom so the facia can rotate. I'll try to get a pic in a minute (just got in), but it's probably too dark, and'll have to wait for the morning. Having had a nose on the way home I think the universal pocket'll fitif I cut the bottom off the pocket facia, and really wedge it in. I'll try when I'm free one weekend
Epic
If you could get a pic that would be great!! whats in the top section at the moment in yours?
Schtuv
Take a look see - a little rough at the moment (as it needs a tidy up), and the pics are af questionable quality, but ...
Schtuv
In answer to my earlier question - I fed the aux lead back around the gear stick, and into the centre console glovebox. Works well, and I can always put something in there to hold an mp3 player/ipod/phone/pda nicely
Epic
Thanks very much for posting them mate, this is a set of pics of when i tryed to install mine... i cant get it to flip back up at all... im starting to wonder if the jap dash is different to the uk one... Image one... Unit when in the top space When closed And as you can see it just doesnt fit what so ever! So i swap them back over so the Ripspeed units at the bottom Looks fine and closes fine Looks like it might work... and as you can see my rubbish job at trimming at the bottom!! Unit goes in... but then wont swing up The gap Just hanging... Before And after when i try and close it. thats as far as it moves
Schtuv
whats in the top section at the moment in yours? Fark-all. I'm hoping to wedge a halfords universal pocket in there sometime, but it'll need some cutting to work ... I'm a little disappointed with the look as there's a gap there, but actually having music in the car again more than makes up for it! Schtuv
Similar install issues here - at the top it just wouldn't close. Try mounting the unit at an angle (high at the front, low at the back) to get around the facia issue when it's mounted at the bottom ... Schtuv
Got round to cleaning the car, and putting the pocket in today to hide the dash hole The pocket is basically sitting on top of the head unit, wedged into place. The front fascia surround wedges very nicely into the gap in the dash and stays there, although I needed to cut the bottom off it to close the head unit fascia. You can see a gap there at the side if you look, but it's not too visible, and at least I've got somewhere to put the remote, now - lol. Having sliced the side off my finger, I can advise everyone to be careful when cutting plastic I broke one fascia while trying to cut to size, but luckily you get three in the pack! Basically, as you can see, it looks a bit sucky when the front's off the new head unit, but I think things could be a lot worse, and now I can watch pr0n while I drive - YAY! (only joking, Officer). EDIT 1: Managed to fix my foglight while doing this, as well - the installer had knocked the connector that the power came off, and it needed plugging back together. And it turns out that positioning the parrot unit where you can see in the pics means it's 'self supporting', and hovers in place very nicely. Go me! EDIT 2: Just realised - that's my blood on the fascia. I must go and clean the car...
Schtuv
Todays interesting discovery - the ripspeed unit remote control sets off the laser detection warning on my Road Angel. I think I could have some fun with this ...
