Supra single turbo kits on vvti Aristo

Hey guys,

As many of you know I drive a 2000 Toyota Aristo V300 with the vvti 2jz-gte. I am thinking of taking the next step and going to single turbo. The thing is, most if not ALL turbo kits out there are made for the Supra, and even worse, most have the little note at the end that says "may not be vvti compatible". I only know of ONE single turbo kit for the aristo and that is the Greddy T78 kit. I can only get it from Japan and the asking price from them is about $5000usd.

I would really prefer newer more efficient turbo kits like from SP or BL and I need confirmation from you guys that these kits are "transferrable" from Supra to JDM Aristo vvti engines.

Let me know your thoughts, please. Thanks!

:D It's doable, but the chances of everything dropping into place first go without any metal cutting or adjustments of some sort are slim, especially in a different engine bay.

The turbo kit isn't the be-all and end-all of the job either, you'll need to sort the fuelling and some way of mapping it, be it piggyback or replacement ECU. Probably a bigger intercooler too.

I am tuning my stock twins in the next couple of weeks with the Dastek Unichip. I am willing to bet that it will work. But I AM SO GOING SINGLE very soon. :D

You're going to need custom pipework for the turbo outlet to intercooler inlet, and you will need to modify the MAF pipe as well, and create your own inlet tract off that to the turbo. The other thing you have to watch out for is the clearance down the side of the engine/body/chassis where the manifold, wastegate, and dump pipe go. And you'll need a downpipe that will mate up from the turbo flex pipe to the exhaust system. A lot of fabbing, a lot of trial fitting, and the car off the road for some time. But it's probably still do-able if you are up for some blood sweat and cussin' :D

Don't forget you'll need to weld a flange to somewhere on the intake side for your BOV, the intercooler will probably need sorting, and the fuelling too. All that lot is probably rather more off-the-shelf though :)

Ok that's not so bad. If it's mostly just piping stuff coz the people here are really good about that kind of stuff. I am only worried that I might have to purchase some parts that will not be be available here locally! Then I am screwed!

You mean JIS? Jakarta International School? A bunch of Americans go to school there. You should come back here and visit. The city has changed a lot in the past 20 years. :)
