CarlT67
I have just finished watching the film American Psycho and I managed to follow the movie until near the end, when the film finished I still had a few questions unanswered. Can anyone help me, does he actually do any murders (I don't think so) is it all in his mind etc....? Does he have two names, split personality...? A lot of people call him one name, others call him another. Please help, I usually get films..... honest
steb9780
Now you need to read the book, much better apparently!
RedM
The book is far superior but can be very hard to get through.

RedM
but you're not going to answer his question I can't remember I'm afraid. Mike Patrick Bateman just got mentioned on the TV series Dexter as I wrote this! It's up to the reader to decide on whether he actually committed the crimes, is actually insane or is just a bored with his life and fantasising. michael
Welcome to the world of films that don't spoon-feed you all the answers and let you do some of the thinking yourself. Refreshing isn't it? Now feed me a stray cat... because cash machines say that don't they?
Scott
As far as i remember he didn't murder anyone, the whole thing was all in his head. In the 2nd Psycho he definitely kills at least 1 person. Scott =op
RedM
Yes, if you're illiterate No, because of the way that the smallest details and most mundane acts can be stretched out over several pages. Don't forget the entire chapters on Huey Lewis and Whitney Houston as well.
RedM
I wonder who'll be the first person to stick an AP quote in their sig?

Scott =op Aye but such is my hatred for the ******* *****, baldy, ******* short-arse, I'm physically incapable of typing his name. Page 133 onwards in my copy. Scott
Have you guys that have read the book seen the movie? I'm just wondering as there is one really really obvious difference between the two. Scott =op

Scott =op Yeah! Christian Bale wasn't in the book. Obviously the film isn't as in-depth and you really don't get the whole superficiality of Bateman in the film. The violence is obviously less explicit too.

Refreshing isn't it? Now feed me a stray cat... because cash machines say that don't they? Refreshing, try mind boggling... It reminds me of the scene with the architect in the Matrix, 15 minutes of confusing scripture. I wonder who'll be the first person to stick an AP quote in their sig? As I started the thread I think I may
Scott
Spoiler, highlight to read... I meant that in the book all the murders are real and in the movie they are all imaginary. The book is just a tad too gruesome for it all to be real so they had to make it fiction for the movie. Scott =op

bmx1lew
yeah read the book, the book is way more graphic, all i am saying is the rat part is nice. I highly recomend reading it, although i had to start skipping bits in it as it can get a little mundane and repetative, It places you in his mind, one part of him is over obsessed and conscious victom of fashion i.e. every character you read about you get about two pages of what there wearing right down to the fine detail, wait! Just remember the phill collins part!.. ended up skipping the whole thing! I think there is a whole chapter about phil colins... in the movie he does a speach about phil collins for about a minuet, but yeah apart from that i enjoyed the book, i would read it again and i would skip the phil collins bit again too, hope im not the only one who was bored with phil collins? Lew.
RedM
How odd! I just wrote a reply that included why the 'boring' bits should be read in their entirety but then wandered off on a tangent and couldn't tie it all up. I should have posted it for the like of the above. Anyhow, have a look here for more thoughts on the book. http://www.briankotek.com/psycho/frame.html
