Jim_1979
My car is a BPU Jap TT. It's been fitted with UK turbos. Curious if there are any advantages of having the UK ones?
Nic
No not really any advantage, they are smaller and spool slower.
dannysupratt
No not really any advantage, they are smaller and spool slower. Jim_1979
Are they not steel instead of ceramic or something?

Nic
DAm i thought they were better:tongue: cant they handle that extra bit of boost though, correct me if im wrong. They can handle around the same boost as the J-spec turbos; ie. circa 1.2bar.
Jim_1979
Can they not handle more boost pressure then, seeing as they're steel? UK's are usually more bhp out the box compared with Jap TT's are they not?
Nic
Are they not steel instead of ceramic or something? Yes they are steel internals which is why they spool up slower.

Jim_1979
Yes they are steel internals which is why they spool up slower. For the same reason, shouldn't they be able to handle more boost?

Im sure my uk is quicker with the bpu though

The J-spec and UK spec Supra are both around 320hp as standard. Over 1.2bar and they will generate more heat and no extra hp.

AgtX80
Most of the time with cars in general, the jap models are faster than the UK ones cause the ecu is set up for the better petrol in japan among other things.
dannysupratt
i thought jap tt bpu was about 400bhp and uk bpu was 420bhp

Im sure my uk is quicker with the bpu though 280hp was the published figure, the actual figure for the J-spec turbo is around 320hp, the same as the UK spec. Suprash
No pretty much the same. So what advantage do they have by fitting steel blades to Hybrids Nic, or is it that they cant get ceramic ones to fit as surely ceramic being faster spooling would be better. And from the early days of being on the bored, UK's where always regarded as slightly more powerfull but as I understand on Hybrids the housing is often bored out slightly no......
