JamieP
Ive read before that this can weaken them due to the heat used to cure the powder. wives tale of factual? Ta:)
AndyT
You can apparently powder coat wood now. Therefore temps should not be so high that they will change the structure of your wheels. http://www.malvern.com/ProcessEng/industries/powder_coatings/overview.htm I'd wait for Colsoop to come along and confirm it though Jamie. What colour are you thinking of?
JamieP
Good point. Not sure on colour yet, if anyone want to try a few options pics in my garage;) Thinking black or anthracite.
Scooter
Have a look at the Work Hardening and Annealing sections of this link Basically a metal can be work hardened.................think forged alloys here.......and the metals structure is altered. Heating allows the metal to revert to its more natural ordered state which is more ductile but has less strength. The link talks about copper in the main, and this metal work hardens significantly and is annealed at quite a low temperature. The effects are less with aluminium but i'd do some research on the annealing temps of aluminium and compare it to the powder coating process temps...... Scooter
A "bit" heavy going but the general concensus seems to say its unlikely i think.............

colsoop
No worries with normal cast wheels, my uk wheels were powdercoated. Magnesium forged rims would be a concern though.
Ibrar Jabbar
Most alloys are powder coated from factory, which gives them a durable finish so it's completely safe.
JamieP
Thanks guys, you have pm Ibrar.
Chris Wilson
I get at least 20 sets of magnesium race rims powder coated each year, it's not an issue about heat, the temps are low, relatively speaking. Ian Jemison Engineering are very good. http://www.alloywheelrepairs.com
turbonut
Hi Jamie Ibbrar's powdercoating my wheels black in a couple of weeks so I'll post up pics when they're done so you'll see how they look Keeping the polished lip though Linda xx
