Cross Platform Racing Sim with Supra

Whlist looking for a GTR2 JGTC Mod (hoping for a Supra) I came across another Racing Sim with a nicely detailed Supra in it.

 

Its called "Racer" - http://www.racer.nl

 

Racer is a free cross-platform car simulation project (for non-commercial use), using professional car physics to achieve a realistic feeling and an excellent render engine for graphical realism.

 

You can download numerous tracks and cars, and even tweak the cars physics (if you know how to).

 

Theres a quick video of the Supra available (see link below) - it looks lovely in game but sadly there is no cockpit view - only external ones. Some cars (ie: Nissan Skyline GTR) have cockpit views.

I only had a quick play using the keyboard which made handling awkward (you've either got full lock or none lol!) - but with a steering wheel it may prove to be better.

 

Its also a small filesize too (less than 35mb!).

 

Thought I'd mention it for you folks out there who like to nerd it once in a while

Nice find! I just tried out the latest Beta on Fedora 8.

It worked, after a couple of tries, but I couldn't figure out the controls (right mouse click did something..)

 

I tried to close the window and it froze X hard. Was able to ssh from laptop and kill X though, so not the end of the world.

 

It looks good though. I'll keep an eye on it.

By default the mouse does seem to be assigned to certain actions, I went to the controls and clicked the RESET button which removed all key/mouse binds - then reset them.
