Alarm Question ??

Advice needed here peeps.

I am looking to get a CAT1 alarm for my car and have always had Clifford Concept 300's in the past with no problems at all.

I have recently been told that they are now superceeded by Concept 650's. The only real difference being you can choose what type of sensor you have installed! It also cost £30 more than the old 300, coming in at £379 fitted at my place of work.

1. Have any of you got a 650 fitted and if so what sensor?

2. What other alarms (CAT1) would you recommend?

Especially interested to hear from you if you have had one fitted in the Bournemouth/poole area recently.

Thanks. :looney:

Howdo mate...

I've just pushed the boat out and had an Intelliguard 950 and Intellistart 4 fitted to mine. There is pretty much nothing it doesn't do, or can do with add-on units etc. I've been really pleased with it up to now and love frightening people with the remote start!

One thing though mate, I've been warned off mobile installers fitting the top end Clifford stuff as I've been told that they rush the work and you might not get as good a job done as if you were to take it to the installer. I can only base that fact on what I've heard and I'm not slagging off mobile installers. I think it just makes sense to take your car somewhere where they have access to more bits and pieces if there is a problem. Plus, they can keep the car there if the job runs over etc. Hitting a problem elsewhere might leave you stranded at work or something daft!

Anyway, I'll vote for the Intelliguard 950 (CAT1) but the Insurance company won't like you stating that you've had extra goodies like the Intellistart added as they see this as an open invite for TWOCers!

Good luck with it mate!

Mine all in was £750 which is not bad - It took me a few weeks to find the right installer at the right price!

Cheers for the reply Mr Duffers :D I have had a bit of work done recently and am thinking £750 for an alarm is a bit much. Although, having said that, its a fu*king lot less than my car!

The guy who installs them has done my previous 4 alarms and I have been very happy him. He also works on behalf of a reptable local company. Although I am sure there are plenty of dodgy ones out there.

I was more (originally) thinking along the lines of a TOAD alarm instead of the Clifford, or something different.

I'm sure plenty of people on here must have budget CAT1 alarms, other than Clifford.

£750 does sound a good price for what you've got though.......... :eyebrows:

Hi Rob, I went with this company in the end...

CAR HI-FI & SECURITY

153 OLDHAM ROAD

FAILSWORTH

MANCHESTER

0161 682 9401

Many that I called simply couldn't fit me in for weeks and I needed it done asap to get the Insurance certificate as A-Plan were breathing down my neck a little!

They are Clifford approved. I just stuck my postcode in on the Clifford site (http://www.clifford.com) and it gave me a list of about ten around my area. I phoned Gap security and they wanted £1089 fully fitted! Ha, yeah right!

Hi Steve

I don't know a lot about Toad systems really. I just opted for Clifford so I could play with the ClifNet Wizard on my laptop and change all the settings. I'm a bit sad like that you see... Don't tell anyone...

:D

I agree that £750 is not cheap for a system but I wanted to get the best I could afford so at least I've tried my best to make sure my darling chunk of metal doesn't get TWOC'd!!

Ah well, good luck with it mate and I'm glad you have found a good mobile installer that will do you a good job! That's half the battle init !!

Later m8!

Paul
