Right, for those Quantity Surveying people out there, any ideas what my wage should roughly be?

Im a Graduate QS, past my degree (Construction Managment and Quantity Surveying) last year from Reading with a 2-2. Im now working with a large company in Swansea, been here since December, and although I've been on alot of building sites before, labouring ect (my dads a builder) this is the first QS work I have formaly done. I am also in the process of getting onto the APC program, so not accredited yet.

Any ideas?, as I have a pay review, !

Well only from Ashley. I shadowed him for a month before taking over his duties and he swanned off to his new team. It wasn't technical training though, just showing me the ropes as to how this company do stuff; 'cos every company's procedures are different, of course.

A WEEK ???

You're kidding?

I earn more than that per day and I don't have an o-level to my name let alone a degree.

You can't be earning that much, surely. Nah. No way.

Are you? :D

I earn a pittance, but it's my own fault I suppose. I should (a) not be frightened of increasing my prices and (b) be more eager for new customers.

Well its different up here, houses are cheaper, fuel is cheaper, cost of living is cheaper.

Also be noted that parts of Glasgow are the most poverty stricken areas in Europe.

What we class as a good wage i.e £330 per week is a bad wage where you guys are

Go and do contracting work in Switzerland or somewhere else tax free. My dad was earning £1000 a day. :)

I reckon I'm pretty good at what I do, but unfortunately what I do isn't particularly specialised. I do IT stuff for small businesses, installation & support, desktop support, fixing computers, laptops, servers, small networks. I genuinely think I do it well though, but it's not really very specialised and there are loads of people who do the same.

I can't write code or design funky web pages, and I don't know anything niche enough like ancient relational databases or business applications.

So I don't see much of a future for myself outside of what I do, small businesses 'IT person' stuff. I have very loyal customers but I'm not gonna be rich any time soon at this rate!

I should push harder on the monthly standing order maintenance stuff, or charge more for non-maintenance customers. I have about 15 monthly payers and I feel financially more secure than ever, but I couldn't buy a house tomorrow, I don't think.

 Thats over £100,000 pa. What do you do?
Ah, you're probably assuming I work 5 days a week, actually I only work 7 days a fortnight, so it's a lot less £ than you thought.

I'm just a IT spud mate, same as most of the guys on here back when I first joined. We seem to have a much broader, what's the word, demographic(?), now though.

I'm a contractor though, so get a bit more per day but no paid holiday or sick pay or pension etc etc. It's not all it's cracked up to be, TBH.
