Steve W
I KNOW I need to disconnect the battery before unplugging the warning-light cluster on the dash (to prevent Air-Bag Light !) BUT I need to check dash-bulbs and speaker wires etc once the dash is off ! Am I right in assuming that I can reconnect the Air-Bag connector to the warning 'strip' and then reconnect the battery/turn ignition on and it SHOULDN'T then trip the light ? ? ? (How else can you check anything behind the dash ? ) Steve.
JamesG
I'd like to do that too, but I don't really want to be the first to try it! Is it that hard to reset the airbag light if it does come on after doing this? James.
Piran
there have been a number of threads which have discussed removing the dash and if you go to the TRL Performance website it tells you what you need to do - the main thing is to not turn the ignition on with the dash disconnected. JohnK
You can reconnect the top part of the dash when the rest is out and turn the ignition on to prevent the airbag light comming on. If you do get the light comminng on, MKiv.com has got how to reset it, you need to alternatly short to wires in the diagnostic plug to ground, sounds a bit mickey mouse but it does work! Steve W
That's the bit I wanted to know John - You can reconnect the top part of the dash when the rest is out and turn the ignition on to prevent the airbag light coming on. 'cos I need to check the stereo etc. I'm still a bit dubious about the resetting method 'cos it wouldn't work before (the garage SAID it was the inertia sensors faulty - but now it's 'fixed' I don't want to bu**er it up again !) every time I 'reset' it, it came back on after ~30secs. Anybody else ACTUALLY had the ignition ON with the dash out - by reconnecting the light - and NOT had the Warning Light on after ? ? Steve. Steve. Yep, no problems as long as that top section is hooked up.
