ManwithSupra
Ok Not sure if i can do anything about this but.... Basicly we have a "minor" train station at the bottom of our road, and at 11pm every night a loaded freight train goes past and you can feel the house shaking (rumbling on the ground, hearing tv on wall slightly shaking and feeling the shaking when sitting on the sofa -its very noticable) over time this looks like its causing cracks in the plaster in the house (which is worrying) The thing is my wife has owned the house we are living in for a while now before the train station at the end of the road was built (a good 300 yards away and down a hill), now do you think i may be able to get the council to come and repair the damage to our house? as damage is being caused by something out of our control ? michael
I don't think the council would get involved but the train company might be liable for some compensation?
ManwithSupra
Cheers i will write a letter - may even get a seismologist and a structural engineers report in to back up my statements.
flukey-lukey
Doubt you'll get any compensation from the train company. Its likely that more than one freight train company use the same route. Speak to Network Rail to see where you stand as they are liable for all track maintenance.
Rob
The thing is my wife has owned the house we are living in for a while now before the train station at the end of the road was built Is your wife, like, 180 years old? I can't believe there are new stations and lines being built these days, outside of the DLR?
stevie_b
I can't believe there are new stations and lines being built these days, outside of the DLR? Exactly what I thought. What train station is it?
