Trig
Can someone suggest how i can go about this? The car has been off the road since november, Tax has run out, so has the MOT, it needs two new rear tyres. ive also put a few bits on including new springs and bilstein shocks. This means i need to have the tracking redone. My uncle does this as he works for a truck alignment company and does it cheap Thing is he tells me i need it done before i put new tyres on. But with no tax or mot i cant get the car to him. So i cant get an mot without the new tyres but cant get the tracking done with new tyres on. Anyone got any ideas?? juanchan
Why can't the tracking be done after the new tyres are on?
Fargo
wouldnt worry about it, stick the tyres on, get your MOT then get it tracked, or stick tyres on, get it tracked then MOT'd.
Jake
But with no tax or mot i cant get the car to him. Don't worry about that. Just drive it to him and get it done. In the highly unlikely event that you did get stopped you would be looking at a £50 fine for no MoT and zero points. Hardly the end of the world. (I know this because I got caught with no tax/MoT on my FireBlade a while back)

Trig
Why can't the tracking be done after the new tyres are on? I think it will wear the same way on the new tyres as the old ones so you have to use the old tyres? could be wrong but its what he does for a living so im not one to argue
cossack
i got a 30 squid fine once for no mot and a judge gave it to me!
Jake
surely this invalidates the insurance tho? Nope - definitely not. It's been covered a few times on here and confirmed by at least one of our porcine members, iirc.
Homer
Jakes correct, but if you have a crash you'd only be covered for the 3rd party.

ADL Mark
You should always have tracking checked after you have new tyres fitted as the process of fitting the tyres could slightly alter the tracking. In theory every time you have so much as a wheel off the car you should get the tracking checked.

Jake
In theory every time you have so much as a wheel off the car you should get the tracking checked. How's that? Tracking should only be done with the suspension fully settled anyway.
