rxv8 Posted March 31, 2008 Share Posted March 31, 2008 hi all a few questions...i have the n/a auto rear end in my chevy supra...can i just change the diff and mount to the n/a prop???or do you have to change to the turbo rear subframe etc etc...and is it all bolt in and are the diff nose/prop bolts the same as the n/a... and finally the reason for this is the turbo rear end has lsd?or any other suggestions would be great...cheers... Dr_Doom Posted April 1, 2008 Share Posted April 1, 2008 What gearbox are you running? the TT auto one? You will need the TT diff and the TT propshaft as the NA won't fit.. The rear subframes are the same. Not all TT's had an LSD diff Another option would be to keep your current set up and buy the TRD LSD to fit. I'm concerned that even the LSD TT auto diff isn't going to be strong enough! (edit - this question isn't neccesarily directed at rxV8) What is your axle code on the VIN? I’ve stripped the teeth off two different NA diffs and this was on a stock NA You’ve only got to search on here to see that lots of other NA diffs have failed this way too.. The best bet would be to buy the TRD LSD and fit this inside the NA diff. IIRC the NA diff and the TT auto diff have the same (small) casing. The TRD diff should be good for big power as Envy run it on their drag supra. This is what I’m doing with my NA-TT conversion as I wouldn’t expect the NA diff to hold out for long. Was it the crown wheel or the diff itself? There are several different crown wheels available, some which appear to be much stronger than others. Yes, here is a photo of Animal's diff when it broke. 2 of mine have gone in exactly the same way. Dr_Doom Posted April 2, 2008 Share Posted April 2, 2008 I also had another NA diff break on me where the pinion bearing collapsed Luckily i was only travelling at 30mph on a straight road when the rear wheels locked up and the car started to snake around. I daren't imagine what would of happened if i'd of been travelling down the motorway! Thankfully, i've not heard of this happening to anyone else so i guess i was just unlucky... See pics below; Was it the crown wheel or the diff itself? There are several different crown wheels available, some which appear to be much stronger than others. I've dismantled a few NA diffs now and the crown wheels seem to be really strong. I've not seen one with any signs of wearing on the teeth.
