My Dad Is Stuck In Portugal.....HELP!

We have all been on holiday. We went for 10 days and my dad & brother met up with us after 3 days for a week at the same complex.

We flew home this morning to Liverpool and their flight was to Manchester this afternoon at 2pm. He has got to the airport in Faro to find that the flight time was changed a week or so ago and our travel company have apparently e-mailed him. My dad has been without a laptop for a couple of weeks now.

He is now unable to get a flight back unless he pays £800 for the four of them and then argues it with the travel company afterwards.

Questions are........does anyone know a good last minute airlines and surely it isn't a reasonable method of notification to e-mail someone when you have their phone number, you can never guarantee that the person is going to get the info.

My dad is now basically FUBAR because the travel company can't be arsed picking the phone up!!

sorry to hear that Paul,

Myself and Steph were caught out by this a year or so back, our travel company emailed a confirmation through with the same time as we'd booked. We never thought to check whether the date had changed  Fortunately we were in England on the outward flight, so imagine our surprise when we turned up at the airport 24 hours early. effectively losing 1 days holiday

I can't help with your situation, but we managed to get our return flight changed to give us our day back. Hope that your dad gets the situation resolved to his satisfaction.

I think he's going to have to bite the bullet and pay the money. We have all booked through Travel Republic and they have been less than useless......

They have lied to me and Vicki and all the evidence is on their website and it has now been erased.....:(

I am still going to throw a small claims court summons at them and see what happens!

I think my dad is going to have to pay the £800 and bend over and take it as Travel Republic will be covered under their small print T&C's.

I'll never do a package holiday again, I'll book everything separately from now on!!

I think it may depend on how you book.

The same thing happened to me when we went to Dublin but I booked the flights way in advance so I knew about the changes but they did email confirmation and didn't follow it up.

Hope it gets sorted out. :(

When you say they didn't follow it up?

Did they change the details that were on the confirmation then?

I mean they didn't ring or anything to confirm we knew, I guess it's there way of keeping the costs down.

They changed the flight times there and back, the return flight was actually a good 8 hours difference!

His flight was brought forward 8 hours..... He paid the money and got back at 4am this morning!!

The bad news is that he waws stranded with his girlfriend and two 14 year olds. £780 out of pocket too!

Good news is that I got my Supra back at last!!:D

I had a similar thing with lastminute.com

Apparently, I booked an advertised 2 night break in Venice, for 3 nights. It was only 2 days before we were due to go, I checked the flight details, and found we were supposed to be going a day earlier than planned.

My girlfriend couldn't get the extra day off, so we had to re-book the flight. Luckily, Lufthansa have a policy that if you don't take the outbound flight, they cancel the inbound one. So I had to book both the outward and return flights. Even more luckily was that this was over the May bank holiday, so flight prices were absolutely extortionate.

A cheap weekend getaway advertised for £450, ended up costing me over £1600 all in. It was for the missuses birthday, and I'd already told her we were going and I couldn't bring myself to cancel it. Right royally fecked.

Will never book anything through lastminute ever again.
