brake caliper upgrade... from bmw?!

Hah, this should elicit interesting responses.

 

I am well aware this is likely to be a no go, BUT:

 

I have a bmw 520i e34 and the brakes are STUNNING. Non abs but they are incredible, they stop the car far faster than the soggy j spec sliding calipers I currently use (uprated pads and discs but the cals are still shite).

 

SO (here it comes) how likely is it, given the discs sizes look similar, that I can swap calipers on these cars? the bmw would be fine with the supra's current brakes (it's heavy but not quick), and the supra NEEDS better brakes. I am saving for engine work atm and won't be buying the 6 pots for a LONG while.

 

Any ideas? :p

I wouldn't bother Chris. The JSpec brakes can be improved loads by using good spec pads, fluid and braided brake lines.

If you want to spend a few quid upgrade to UK spec brakes. I guarantee you they'll be better than the BMW ones.

LMAO never noticed my typo, that'll teach me to do it quickly! ;) you never get used to the type too quick malarky huh.

The guy before me put much better discs on, and "uprated" green stuff pads (tho I suspect they aren't great for a big car like the supra).

 

Better fluid and braided cables? Any recommendations?

 

I tried finding uk spec brakes. NO ONE could help me. So I am living with this till I can get 6 pots.

Chris where in Surrey are you? I know what you mean re the jap brakes but i could demonstrate a set that just have uprated pads and tbh i think you'd be very impressed with them.......

 

Cobham area...

 

Gimme a pad/fluid recommendation and I'll do it, I'm sick of how soggy they are currently!

Green stuff pads are pretty much universally regarded as being utter shite, on the Supra at least. You've seen the UK brakes group buy that CJs doing I take it?

Chris Wilson's Race spec pads are what transformed mine. No particular fluid to recommend, I just replaced with regular stuff.

 

I'm not particularly hard on the brakes, but the bite and pedal feel was transformed. Bite is definitely better than UK's with stock pads and i suspect that so is the ability to resist fade as my understanding of brake fade is that in the real world it is caused by pad material deficiency and not boiling brake fluid (although that can obviously eventually occur with uprated pads and hard use)

 

I should say that the dust produced by these pads means constant care/cleaning of your alloys is required, and is definitely something to keep an eye on if the wheels are valuable. Chris's fast road spec pads may be a better compromise for dust and cost........

Chris saw Brett the other day he asked how you are getting on the trater has gone and brought a Skyline i will be upgrading the brakes on mine soon to CW fast road pads braided lines and good fluid your welcome to come and have a go

YEah I'm ok, the car on the other hand isn't very good compared to what he said he'd had done. The lag is pretty dire and the traction control and engine mgmt turn off regularly due to tuning japanese's "tuning". and some BASTARD broke into it a while ago. Nicked nothing, but ripped the EVC apart. Had to solder it back together.

 

 

tbh the car needs some major tuning and sorting out, which is a shame.

 

still lovely to drive tho - but just a question, should it only do 200 miles to a full tank?!

 

how's yours? Any news on the heater matrix (which has also gone)?

 

Regarding the traitor, erm I thought he sold me the supra cos his gf wanted a less silly car?!
