Dave17
Hi Guys, My first post so please be gentle! I just put a good deposit down on a 96 Import TT Auto. She's a real minter, like she's just come off the production line. My problem as you may have guessed is that the oil filler cap had a fair amount of mayo on it. My mind automatically thought headgasket. She's only done 70k miles and is really smooth and drives as expected, with both turbo's functioning as expected. I've asked the place that is selling it to replace the head gasket before i give them the rest, which has been agreed. Basically the place i've bought it off is owned by a guy who owns a Honda dealership so there shouldn't be a problem with them doing it. Question is, how can i tell if they have done it? The only way i think i can tell is if i clean off the mayo from the cap and see if it reappears. If i take it to my local Mr T presumably they can tell me if its been done? Question 2 is, am i likely to have any trouble with it being on its second HG? As i say she is a real minter just abit worried if the engine is buggered, but she drive perfectly and felt like she should Cheers in advance, will get some photos up when i pick her up. D8MOA
its prob got mayo where its been sitting about i.e got condensation in it. if its that mint chances are its never been taken apart, when thay have done it look for signes that parts have been removed
Dave17
Ah ok, it didn't really occur to me that it could just be condensation, she was sat in Japan for a couple of months waiting to be imported the chap said, so that could well be the reason. It does come with a 12 month warranty as standard from the place, however any bills that are over £500 I have to pay the difference. As I say, not a single scratch on here anywhere, even the undertrays are immaculate. Haha I have a MR2 n/a as my daily drive at the moment and i nearly brown trousered it when the boost kicked in on the test drive. I thought i was watching the rev counter shoot up at that insane speed, but it was speedo. Many Thanks Dave

merckx
You can also get the mayonnaise type gunk under the oil cap if the car has done lots of short journeys when the engine doesn't get warmed up. I'm surprised that they agreed to do it so quickly and didn't tell you that they needed to investigate further before agreeing to do a labour intensive job like this. Dave17
Well, it looked to be a professional outfit, and i went up to the Honda place that the chap said would do the work and they confirmed that all their work is warranted and that they do work on non-honda cars for the place i bought her off, because the same guy owns the dealership and the trade place i got the supra from. The bonus is that i've got it on the sales receipt that they signed and dated that they agree to do all the work i asked them to do, specifically the headgasket
supra matt
Hi mate i very much dout the head gasket is gone as there metal as standard and would not blow on a standard car in million years , so your best bet is just give it a good service and replace all the fluids with good quality ones and some new ik22 spark plugs should sort you out ,
Tricky-Ricky
Just ask them to perform a sniffer test on the coolant while your there, another tel tale is take a look at the coolant header tank, if the HG is gone there will be a oily ring around the tank
