Train drivers

Um... with the train thundering down at her, do you think any of them would be thinking about that, I guess they were panicing on getting her free..

Also you don't know which slat she got stuck in, if it's the middle one I don't think the leg would bend enough.

It must have been terrible for the two who tried to help, talking to her and trying to get her out only to see here get squished. :(

I have to cross a pedestrian crossing on a railway to get to work each day. The problem is, the time delay's between the red light coming on, and the train actually being there, are just plain silly, and so no-one trusts them. If her foot got stuck, I'm guessing it would have been a problem if she's crossed with the barriers down or not...

Is that near a station by any chance? The crossings work by the train wheels striking something called a treadle mounted to the rails a set distance away (depending on line speed etc.), this lowers the barriers and they wont raise until the train strikes the next treadle to prove that it's gone through. If the train stops at a platform between treadles, you can be in for a long wait before it actually passes the crossing.

I've read in the paper today, she was trapped, and for some reason they seem to be focusing on her Ugg boots, because she squeezed through the barriers and crossed on the timber bit. Then some guy manged to actually pull her foot out in time, but then as her boyfriend was on the other side she tried to leg it across to him and the train took the strain.

Call me harsh but it seems an epic fail on her part on several occasions.

I've just read that too.

"I went through and saw she had her foot stuck at first and I grabbed her hand and got her foot out.

"I had her in my arms, she was safe. But her boyfriend screamed at her to get to the other side. I said, 'Stay on this side'.

"But he said, 'This is my train, I've got to be on this side of the track', and so she tried to cross.

The train was about 25ft away. The train didn't have any chance to stop.

"She just curled up in a ball. Her boyfriend jumped out of the way. I tried to help her but I slipped on the wet. It was luck I wasn't hit. I was still holding her hand when the train came.

Just plain stupid! :(

Though i feel for those involved this is natural selection at work. The only one to blame was the stupid bitch who tried to play chicken with a train.

Pathetic.

Her boyfriend was charged with manslaughter and you still make an unncessarily cruel statement like this.

:(

Witnesses said Kelly, of Clacton, had got free of the track but was hit when trying to retrieve her boot.

Student Jonathan Smith, 18, who tried to help, said: "I told her to forget about her boot. She fell between the rails and just curled up in a ball, I think she was in shock because she knew the train was coming."

Kelly was killed instantly on Thursday by the 50mph train. The driver sounded his horn and tried to brake but could not stop.

jeez are you for real:rolleyes:

Horrible, truly horrible :(

I'm just amazed that Jonathon held her hand when the train hit, that's what it reads like anyway. Can't think of anything else I'd rather not be doing.

such a waste of life, and the thoughts going on in that poor girl head at the time:(
