lee_kelsey
Guys, I have noticed over the last couple of days that at very slow speeds I am getting a quiet random ticking type noise from the front drivers side wheel. At first I thought it maybe a stone rattling on the inside of the rim, but it appears not. It doesnt appear to do it from a cold start, and does seem to be more prominent (spelling!?!?!), under braking. Any ideas?
Ian C
It's not a stone stuck in the tread of the tyre, is it? -Ian

Doug
Are you sure it's not the charcoal filter we were discussing earlier this week?

AJI
I also have a slight ticking noise coming from the engine bay...... I questioned Toyota about it and they said it was some sort of hydralic noise and nothing to worry about. My initial thoughts were stone chips in the exhaust or a loose bolt in the engine bay somewhere but aparently if its a hydralic caused type of noise then it's OK. I don't know all that much when it comes to the mechanical workings of my engine so I don't know whether to believe Toyota or not when they say it's OK. I suppose if it doesn't get any louder then there's nothing to worry about.
Guest Martin F
Could be the pads shifting in the guides.
as5606
At the back of my Supra Manual that came with the car, the indicators for low brake pads is a ticking noise that should appear around your wheels. Seems odd but that is what it says.
lee_kelsey
Martin, You may be right, I changed the pads myself about 2 weeks ago. If it is this, what does it mean, other than the noise? Should I remove them and reseat them?
Guest Martin F
I would make sure you have all the anti-rattle springs, shims, etc. and that they are fitted correctly. A previous owner may not have replaced them all.
FaithStalker
could it just be the exhaust cooling? mine makes a right racket when i stopped, lots of spitting / clinking / creaking type noises, at low speeds it may just be cooling down a little??? Steve W
Same on mine.... sounds like it's coming from the '2nd-cat' area ? Just little 'ticks' & 'pings' like metal heating/cooling expanding/shrinking I assumed it either WAS the cat' or the big heat shields above it ? ? [ then again get EXACTLY the same noise from my Bandit after a good thrash - that's got stainless downpipes and collector ! ] soon find out if it's the cat' ! !........ .......when I rip 'em AWWFFF ! ! Steve Cargill
I've just been de-catted and am getting similar light metal rattling etc noises that I've not traced yet. Only notice it when driving slowly (due to other noise I'd say) with the window down. Doesn't seem related to going over bumps, but doesn't happen when stationary. Syed Shah
I had this problem, it WAS the rear pads, appaently they were not made correctly, but Leon eventually managed to get them to fit tightly anyway, and the noise stopped.

I am inclined to think it is a pad/seating/fitting problem! I have CW pads and fitted them myself, so it could well be, that I have done something wrong! (am not exactly the worlds greatest mechanic!). Will try and sort them before billing but I don't have much time between now and Billing, maybe i'll check them there!
