Hi guys,

Im looking to buy some hybrids shortly and wanting to know what other equipment do i need! At present i have a 93 Jspec TT; Its been partly BPU'd - Just needs walbro pump.

I have been looking at changing my fueling to a UK spec system and also geting some 550cc injectors? are these compulsary or not?!

Any advice would be greaty used.

Paul

all depends on what boost you want to run, say 1.2 bar you dont essentially need any upgraded fueling mods, but if you want to fun higher boost then (talking from experiance at what can go wrong if you dont :( ) you will want better fueling, upgraded pump, injectors and at least a piggy back ecu to manage it all ;)

Uk spec injectors (the 550'ss) will be plenty big enough to run 451bhp through, they slot straight in so no new fuel rail, but if you want to go single, then maybe its worth future proofing to reduce over cost in the long run and just opting for a new fuel rail and suitable injectors for what ever future plans you may have?

Cams is another consideration, the HKS jobs would be a good choice and they look great too, future proof again ;)

Good luck

TBH if you are thinking about singles then i would go straight to a set of 650cc or similar. Some good quality injectors like PE would be a good choice as they have a better spray pattern. Some may say that 650cc is over kill but even if you go down the route of 550cc you will still need something to control them i.e. MAP, PowerFC, AEM, EMU etc etc. Also you will need a resistor pack for UK 550's as they are a different impedance to the j-spec's

Also if you are serious about going single then i would miss out the hybrid stage as its really just a waste of money IMO. I.e. paying two lots of labour costs, buying the hybrids, mapping etc etc

To get the benefit from hybrid's, you will need the following as a minimum, this is presuming you have already gone BPU with full decat and fuel pump, plugs etc,

lager injectors 550cc if your going to run more than 1.1 bar, but i would fit just to be certain of not running lean anywhere in the rev/load range, as you will be flowing more air across the board,

piggyback ECU either EMU or MAP2 as you will not only need to control fuelling but also timing,

A boost controller of some sort, you may also want to consider going TTC to get small single power delivery to;)

as options you may also want to consider a FMIC and cams to really take advantage, but as said by others you may want to hold off and consider a small single set up.

Edit: you would also need to add a decent wideband setup to the essential list, i would recommend the innovate lm-1

thanks tricky - looking at fmic as well! what piggyback ecu would you reconmend?!

Wez has a point in his post, especially if you intend to go single later but it will be expensive,

i would recommend the Emanage ultimate personally, but i am informed that the MAP 2 is also very good, both can be purchased for around £400,

i also omitted to add the obligatory wideband sensor in my earlier post;)

when fitting 550's to a j spec can you use a UK spec ECU..............or are there other compatability issues..

There are other issues like the loom (pin outs are different), MAF sensor, resistor pack, etc. It would be a very long way from plug and play.

As has been mentioned you would be best off going for a full aftermarket ECU from the outset if you are planning on taking things further.

IMO its a no go, not worth the hassle, UK/US run MAF not MAP and I am sure there are many more gotchas.

If you really want 550cc and are fitting a fuel controller to trim them why bother with UKs and a resistor pack, PE do 550cc drop ins :search:
