Laser printer, commercial quality

Looking for a good used laser printer. Can be biggish, but must be commercial quality, I am sick and tired of cheap ink jets that clog, put stripes on things, break down and cost a packet for consumables. If it was a colour laser I'd be very happy, but B&W would do. Will pay cash, cheque, bank transfer or Paypal, and arrange collection. Will also swap for pads, cat pipe, or discount off more expensive stuff depending on value. Must use sensibly priced consumables though! WHY? Thanks.

My old canon LBP4+ has given good service, something similar, but colour would be ideal. I bought a brand new Epson C86 a bit ago. I asked if it could possibly be any good for the price and was told yes, it's a POS in my opinion :) IMO a good printer is one where it's so heavy you work up a sweat getting it into the car ;)

We have 5 OKI 5200N printers at work, excellent quality and you should be able to get one pretty cheap now... As they superceded it to the C5250N

The most important thing with Laser printers is to look at is the refil / toner prices, lets face it you can get a decent unit for £60 (Some of the basic HP's) but the prices of the toners are like £50 or something, which means its almost cheaper to buy a new unit.

Im currently using here a Colour HP 2600n (its also network sharing) , its excellent but refils are expensive. (Mind you i dont print much, so its lasting ages and ages!)

Mines a model up, and with network, but for the money id say this one sounds good. Depends if you likely to really print 1000's of sheets....

Beware of buying anything old. You could end up needing fusers, drums and toner - in which case you might as well have bought a new one.

Totally agree. Im also not sure you want a commercial model as when they break they can cost $$$ to fix.

That wasn't me was it?

I've never liked Epson ink jets.

I agree never liked Epson, Cannon are ok but HP in my opnion do the best.

I actually suggest sticking with a desktop / laser printer designed for the home. My HP at home, is plug in and out on cartridges no faffing around lining up or anything and does nothing but photo quality prints.

From http://www.svp.co.uk All 6 cartridges (5 colour 1 black) can be replaced for £25 and never had a bad line from it.

No Pete, it wasn't you :) PC World, I was desperate for a printer NOW, and I was in Manchester. I should have known better, the Epson I had before it lasted less than a year. The Canon LBP4+ has lasted at least 15 years.

I picked up an HP Colour LaserJet 4550 from eBay last week for £45. Only done 55k prints, fuser and imaging unit only half used. Needs a couple of toners refilled as they're showing 0% but still prints out fine.

Weighs 60Kg, so you definitely break a sweat getting it in and out of the car. Brought it home in the girlfriend's ST205 Celica, was amusing getting 60Kg of printer over the rear strut brace to sit on the back seat :D
