The Raven
http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/borzoi.htm http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/scottishdeerhound.htm Them beastys. Need loads of exercise and will kill most small mammals or birds.
Gerry
Had a couple of deerhounds and one borzoi in the kennels where I worked at a teen. Both looked really great, but the deerhounds were thick and the borzoi, like any sighthound was even thicker. Depends on why you want them, they look real nice, but if you want to work them you would be better off with a good lurcher, 1/2deerhound, 1/4 greyhound, 1/4 collie or if you want more nimble, less deerhound more greyhound / whippet. I had a cracking little bitch that only stood 23" but was line bread and had small bits of both deerhound & bedlington. Brainy (the collie in her) broken coated and very quick, great little dog that took both fur and when in the right situation feather ! Will get another when I'm retired... Gerry
Just put my brain in gear and thought that there may be deerhound or borzoi owners on here. Sorry if I offended re "thick" I think the term usually used by the breeds is "aloof" Pretty dogs though...
juanchan
Sorry if I offended re "thick" I think the term usually used by the breeds is "aloof" Must remember that one next time I'm accused of being "thick" I'd like decent dog one day and a Deerhound would fit the bill nicely. If only I wasn't stuck in the mundanity of 9-
garethr
I believe there are "working" deerhound strains that were used for coursing. Probably smaller, faster, hardier, and brighter than the show strains.
Gerry
I believe there are "working" deerhound strains that were used for coursing. Probably smaller, faster, hardier, and brighter than the show strains. They do course deerhounds, but from what I gather they don't catch much (although this isn't the ultimate goal of organised coursing which is to pit two dogs running a hare against one another). A mate of mine who used to breed them did catch a deer near longleat when going for just a walk, but he did have four deerhounds, a whippet and a little lurcher - not really sporting !
