JustGav
yes mate, 1080p Hmmm, that is odd then, because I've got cars on both dvd and on erm blu-ray backup (H264), and I can very much see a quality and colour difference just at 720p
Scott
Surprised you don't see the difference. If you look up close you will see they are much less pixelated. I only have a 720p TV and i notice a massive difference when playing HD through it. Scott =op

Robzki
this blu-ray thing is it better quality than betamax? cos if so It may be time for me to make the switch. I know its early days but I'm keen to keep up with the times
supra-lover
i did notice on dvd, dark scenes where not very good quality, you can see lots of blocks (you can tell i dunno what i'm talking about here but i'm trying) where as with the blu-ray films it was a hole lot better?????? juanchan
I've watched spiderman 3 on bluray on my 720p tv, and there was a massive difference between a normal dvd and that! Me and my mate were astounded at the clarity of the picture. I've got transformers on dvd which I watched a couple of days before and it's no where near the quality. Chris-B
i got the 007 film free with my PS3 and have tried it on both a 720 and 1080 tv. The difference between a normal tv and a 720 is breathtaking you should notice the difference from the first scene (the jungle bit at the beginning of 007 an the quality of it u can even see the rain droplets really clearly!)Then i tried it on my 1080 which to be honest wasent that much different from what i could see but i never spent ages comparing the two lol 720 is good enough for me anyways! juanchan
720 is good enough for me anyways! Same here. I'm sure 1080p makes a difference on huge TVs, but my living room isn't big enough for anything larger than about a 37" screen
Chris-B
yeah i got a 37" as well its more than big enough imo, my dads got a 50" 1080 and its way to big for me lol

I could easily have bought a 37" for the price I paid, but having spent ages looking into them, you do get what you pay for IMO. I still think it looks a tad large in the corner of the room though
supra-lover
i use my 37 as my pc monitor, at first it was mental but now i have got more than used too it, i don't think i could go back to a 19 inch monitor now lol
Kopite
I only noticed the differance when playing Casino Royale side by side (42" HD 1080 here). I've not bought a Blu Ray yet as i'm not sure i'd use it, i tend to watch a lot of films in bed, someone said they put a normal DVD version on the Blu Ray disc too so it can play in any normal DVD player still, this true? Not got my copy of Casino Royale Blu Ray to try it!

Not got my copy of Casino Royale Blu Ray to try it! Really? I heard that HD-DVD players were able to read both HD-DVDs and normal DVDs with the one laser head, whereas Blu-ray players have to have a separate DVD laser to read normal DVDs. I'd be surprised if they were backwards compatible with normal DVD players. Happy to be corrected though

Pretty sure the laser will have to be much more accurate than a dvd player's. Scott =op

Just curious as if its not as good as it could be you might not get all the benefit Scott =op it's fine mate, i'm prob just not taking much notice tbh, i'll have a study later, i'll whack a dvd in the old ps3 then try a blu-ray

Scott =op From what I was told, that's why the HD-DVD laser could read DVDs, but the Bluray one couldn't for some reason. No idea on the technical reason behind it though. Key example I was told is the PS3 has 2 lasers - one for bluray, one for normal DVDs. I've never looked inside one, so that could be BS I was told
