Scoboblio
My fiancee's car got keyed last week. As you can see by the pics it's not too deep, but runs from the rear quarter to the front of the driver's door. Chips away have quoted £323 to repair it Does anyone know of any other good places to ask for a quote? I think it's high because they've got to treat two panels... if it was just on the driver's door it'd be £
michael
Hard to tell from the pic but is it right down to the metal or just the clear that's scratched?
Scoboblio
Oops, sorry should've said that! It's not deep, just the top layer by the feel of it - certainly not down to the metal.
Lukeyboy2k
To be honest I'd say that quote isn't too bad provided they guarantee a flawless finish. If done properly that would take a fair while to make good again. Is that the Renault metallic black? The flake makes it so much harder to do well than a normal colour. It’s such a shame there are people out there that go around doing things like that.

michael
You might be able to fill the scratch with clear (cocktail stick and patience rather than a 2" brush) and then wet sand it before polishing out but if you haven't tried it before it could end in tears

MrRalphMan
My ex neighbour runs a body shop in Stock, he's good but don't know if he'd beat that price. Whatever you do don't mention my name, he'll double your bill.

michael
Sign up on http://www.detailingworld.co.uk/forum and stick "keyed" into the search feature - quite a bit of stuff on there. Might also be worth posting pics on there to see if any of the local chaps can help you out, they might not be able to make it 100% but might manage 99% for less that you've been quoted. Now that is a good site, but only if you have no girlfriend! Very infomative though Sorry to read about your problem Ian. Maybe Detailing World could help you, as Michael says. Scoboblio
Thanks for the advice everyone, will have a search on the detailing forum tonight. dont let chips away do it. get it done properly. A decent bodyshop like myself would want £500 + vat That's the problem Jon, we don't have money to chuck at it. She could claim on her insurance, but at her age and with just under two years NCB, she'd end up paying it all back come renewal time anyway. What are the problems with using chips away? I've heard very good things about them.
michael
What are the problems with using chips away? I've heard very good things about them. I think it depends on how good the chap who comes out is rather than the entire company being bad - I've seen them product some excellent results. Might be worth getting quotes from other similar companies in your area and perhaps a PM to "karl" who does that kind of work to see what sort of price he'd expect it to be for a repair like that. He's be able to give you an insight into what they will do at the same time I would imagine.
