Mike M
Damn those last 9 months of daily use and neglect are biting me now. Think my sups just realised its going to be 15 this year. While crawling along with the window open I can hear a clicking / cracking noise from the rear so decided to jack it up thinking the lowering springs were just rubbing. Found that both the rear wheels have a fair bit of up & down play but the drivers is the worst. Both make a clicking noise too when pulling pushing the wheel with the drivers making a slight knocking. Couldnt feel any sideways movement and having the handbrake on or off didnt make any difference. Question is though, is it CV joints, wheels bearings or wishbone balljoints? Cheers Mike
bignum
Sounds like wheel bearings, when mine was that bad i had to replace the hub flange aswell as it was oval,

4packet
To be sure, I would suggest jacking the car up and getting someone else to shake the wheel while you inspect the suspension/drivehaft/hub area for relative movement (torch will help). If putting the handbrake on makes no difference like you say, that suggests it is suspension related. Check the top 2 inner bushes on the upper suspension arms first. 4packet
Its the clicking/ cracking that makes me think bearings I agree it seems a little confusing, hence the check everything part. I'm trying to motivate myself atm to replace the whole upright/hub/driveshaft assembly. New bearing has not rectified my hub issue and nothing appeared wrong with the parts I removed. Apart from the noise, the pad push-back I think I'm getting from it is really annoying. Need to get it sorted for this year's Ring trip! Still possible that we'll be out the same time as you. Don't think the Fezza will be coming along though.
Masenko
When my wheels were clicking, it ended up being the driveshaft. Get it looked at!
Mike M
Its the clicking/ cracking that makes me think bearings Me too or CV joints. It sounds like what knackered CV joints do on full lock on a FWD car when its crawling with a clicking crunchy noise. I thought the bumps in the road were causing it but it did in the multistorey today and thats very smooth. Unfortunatly I'm back to work tomorrow so its gonna have to run to Aberdeen and back. While I'm away I'll give Hypertech a ring and get it on the ramp. Gonna be an expensive month this and its MOT is looming in May. I Still dont wont rid of it though.
