Smellywelshman
Its been going on for a while now, but because of other Supra related spending I've been ignoring it! It's now got to a stage where I NEED to get something done as its giving me 'vibration white-finger'! Symptoms are as follows:- 1. Constant (but slight) 'thud thud thud' that can be felt through both the footwell and steering wheel when driving, especially at lower speeds. Like going over very worn rumble strips. 2. Steering wheel wobble (like unbalanced wheels, but all of them have just been balanced last week) which seems to reach its peak at 80leptons, as if its resonating at that speed. So I'm guessing one, or both, wheel bearing(s) are shot. Correct? What else is worth changing at the same time? Anti-roll bar bushes etc...? As always, ta for mucho sharing of knowledge in advance! Geo
Also interested in this thread as mine is shaking at about 80 leptons, anything below that is fine. Wheels have been balanced but could of fallen off etc. Geo
Smellywelshman
letsa bumpitty bump then shall we?!
flukey-lukey
hold your horses before you start replacing suspension bits! This could be something as simple as a bleb in the tyre. I had one on a previous car I owned that caused the same symptoms
SteveR
Find a nice big empty car park - and drive round in full steering lock circles at low speed, and again a bit quicker - do any of the noises/vibrations change with on speed and/or direction (clockwise/anticlockwise circle)? Pabs
I found it was my wheel balancing - last garage balanced the wheels according to their machine, but it was found that their machine was out as I took them to another garage and problem solved!!! Similar problem too - wheel wobble that was at it's worst at around 80 leptons.
rick001
Could it be warped discs?
Smellywelshman
Don't think its warped discs, as at all speeds she brakes in a straight line and the wobble is non-existant at lower speeds whether braking or not.
Nic
Do you feel vibration of the wheels under braking? This can be a sign of a worn front wheel bearing. Get the car on axle stands, hold the tyre on each side and see if there is any side to side movement in the wheel bearing. The most common ones to go are the nearside ones, as they tend to get curbed and find the potholes/drain covers at the side of the roads. Chris Wilson
Very very unlikely to be hub bearings. Very very likely to be either none stock wheels with wrong size spigot hole, or a tyre with a none round tread.

Yes, but I'd say it feels more like a regular thumping as if there was a flat spot on the tyres. Infact, when it started about 18months ago (I know, I've been mondo lazy...and skint) thats what I thought it was as it began almost immediately after I locked the front wheels up during a hard braking incident on the M56! But there is no flat spot and it hasn't really gotten any worse (or better) since then. Very very unlikely to be hub bearings. Very very likely to be either none stock wheels with wrong size spigot hole, or a tyre with a none round tread. I've changed my alloys from the 18" Advans that it came with (it was fine with these for a good 12months prior) to Work Rezax 18"'s only recently and the symptoms don't seem to have changed much at all. I'll jack her up tonight or tommorrow night and se if anything wobbles.
Rayman
Tracking?
Chris Wilson
Incorrect tracking, unless out to truly biblical proportions, won't cause wheel wobble.
Smellywelshman
Haven't managed to check it tonight (due to one of the numerous fur covered aminuls that seem to abode in my gaff!!) so it'l have to be tomorrow after work. When I'm checking for play in the front wheels is the technique as follows? Place hands at 12 and 6 and proceed to alternately push and pull checking for movement? Any other things/tell tales I should know about before checking? taaa... Rob...
