Oil Filter ?

Recommended Posts

I fitted my new wheels on Friday, when the car was jacked up I noticed a little bit of an oil drip but never thought anymore of it.Last night o the way to work I thought I would have a little play on the motorway, but then I noticed my oil pressure was roughly 30 psi when I was doing quite a speed. I also noticed a knocking sound coming from the drivers side

My old man had a look and seems to think it's coming from the oil filter so I'm looking for a new one ASAP. Is there anywhere that would be open tomorrow or am I best waiting for this-

The knocking noise was 2 loose wheel nuts :scared:

I very much doubt you would get one tomorrow, but any Toyota garage would have these in stock. I don't see the point in the TRD one, the stock one works perfectly

Ok thank Homer,I just noticed the difference in price. I'll give it my best shot tomorrow, fingers crossed it is just the filter cause I had visions of an engine out job at first.

i doubt its the filter unless its been recently fitted............

if there is a fair bit of oil i'd look nearer the front of the engine, behind the aircon compressor.........if there is oil there i'd suspect the oil pressure sensor........

Right on the button mate

Just got back in from the garage, Oil pressure switch right enough. Is this a snide job or is it easier than it looks? any ideas where I can get one ASAP? Just out of interest what usually causes this? and am I best having the filter replaced while it's in?

The cause is i think a bonding one, the sensor is plastic and metal and age and heat cycles causes it to spring a leak. I think toyota uprated/redesigned this item and again i think from memory its external size is different to the one that you'll take off ie you'll need say a 23mm socket to remove and a 25mm to put the new one on (i'll try and find the exact details/sizes)

Its relatively simple, however the aircon compressor need to be unbolted from its mounting and moved away (evacuating the system is NOT necessary) so that you can get at the oil sensor.

The aircon compressor has 2 or 3 normal nuts/bolts but also a stud has to be removed and for this you'll need a female torx/star socket (again i'll try and confirm the details). Alternatively you can use the two nuts on the exposed thread method to remove the stud.....

unclip the loom from the sensor, remove old, attach new and reattach the loom and your done!

seems i got the old and the new sizes back to front but here are the sizes you will require.........deep long reach required)

From an old thread....

"I found that Toyota had altered the design of the new switch and you need a smaller socket for the new one (24mm), had to go out and buy another long reach socket (27mm)."

Thanks for all the input buddy, I'm going looking for one tomorrow. My old man has been charged with the task of getting it fixed, I've put a wager on him not being able to have it sorted inside two hours, if I lose I need to fill his tank full of V-Power :(

Is it worth while swapping the filter while he is at it?
