Ewen
Crumbs, I posted this as a wee bit of banter, including a big grinning smilie. My wife is not best pleased at me for posting this either, as its non of my business and certainly none of yours, so thats me told. My quip about Media Studies was uncalled for, for which I apologise. The tutor is female, and aparently a lovely person. My wife likes her a lot, and this tutor has helped my wife over and above the norm over the last few years. My wife was initially quite annoyed by the bizarre marking, but has no intention of trying to get said tutor sacked...after the Easter break she will have a chat with her and go from there. Animal
The main issue would be if it affected her marks. I'd still be inclined to raise the issue either way, but if my degree score was going to be affected, then I'd be making damn sure that this problem was sorted out. turbonut
The main issue would be if it affected her marks. I'd still be inclined to raise the issue either way, but if my degree score was going to be affected, then I'd be making damn sure that this problem was sorted out. When her next tutorial is due, she could perhaps take a copy of her dissertation and an Oxford Dictionary in with her. I spent two years working on my dissertation and if she is going to be marked like this for that length of time it could become quite annoying. Besides, if the work is spell checked on her PC it would indicate her PC is incorrect not herself, highly unlikely! Given her good relationship with her tutor, it will hopefully be resolved but she should stand her ground if she feels genuinely unfairly treated and her work possibly jeopardised. All the best, Linda
SupraAyf
It's all well and good you saying that - but what has it got to do with the quality of the tutors spelling? I was just thinking the same Ken.
ShamelessTT
There are people who cant do their jobs in all lines of work, this case is no different. Its no reason to poo poo the value of todays degrees and higher education as a whole. (Prior comments in this Thread)

Tannhauser
It's all well and good you saying that - but what has it got to do with the quality of the tutors spelling? I think that's referring to my post? The comments on the quality - or otherwise - of Media Studies as a discipline is nothing to so with the tutor's spelling. However, it was raised as a point elsewhere in the thread. The first two paras are to do with the tutor's spelling. For one thing, I'm saying that (as others have pointed out) one tutor's inability to spell doesn't tell us about uni tutors on the whole. Secondly, I'm saying that I'm surprised that her spelling is so poor, given that the subject has a lot in common with teaching English. Oh no you don't!! Don't you come on here and post a balanced viewpoint. Rent-a-mob's passions have been inflamed and demand to be satisfied. Now barge into that office, demand to see the Principal and let's see her nailed up. "Nail 'er up! Nail some sense into her!"
