Nic Posted March 27, 2008 Share Posted March 27, 2008 It may be cheap, but to view it as anything other than a shiny bit of under bonnet metal would be foolish. It will add nothing to the torsional stiffness of the shell. It's too thin, the wrong shape, has leverage in the strut top mounts, and alloy is a poor material choice. If you want to make something that resists bending you don't make it a bow shape in oval section! If you want to see how a working strut brace is formed just look at photos of proper race cars. amen Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Only a full welded in roll cage will make a HUGE difference, but a decent strut brace will help a bit. They really need triangulating back to the bulkhead, which would be tricky to say the least. Race saloons and coupes usually have the engine a lot lower because they are dry sumped, which leaves room for more bracing atop the engine.
