Chris Wilson Posted March 27, 2008 Share Posted March 27, 2008 It may be cheap, but to view it as anything other than a shiny bit of under bonnet metal would be foolish. It will add nothing to the torsional stiffness of the shell. It's too thin, the wrong shape, has leverage in the strut top mounts, and alloy is a poor material choice. If you want to make something that resists bending you don't make it a bow shape in oval section! If you want to see how a working strut brace is formed just look at photos of proper race cars. Anywhere that makes roll cages should be well qualified to make something substantial. For the small amount of material involved I'd look at T45 chrome moly tube for a bit of weight saving.
