First off, what did you download? I hope it wasn't from a popup as this could have installed some malicious programs on your pc. You say you have Norton, how comes you want a free AV package? MaveriK
Dont buy XS power, its cheap and nasty and you get what you pay for! Yes, run AVG, its free and.....oh! Sophos is quality, and i run Ad-aware 2007 and CCleaner. Two firewalls (ok so one is microsofts) and an IP blocker (Protowall). I wouldnt touch AVG with a barge poll
Wez
I have used Avast and AVG, both are ok. There was an article in a mag not so long ago comparing various antivirus, free and paid setups, the results showed most paid software was utter tosh. Avast came very high on the list. Scott
I had a problem with my dad's pc the other night. The trouble was it actually altered the AV so that it couldn't find it. Anyway, do an online scan. They aren't the best antivirus scanners but its done online so more difficult to fool. http://housecall.trendmicro.com/uk/ Avast is the best IMO Scott =op
Scott
Oh for security there is no need to go overboard with loads of firewalls etc. Its quite simple 1 Be careful what you say yes to regarding popups etc 2 Be careful what sites you go onto 3 Be careful what files you download 4 Always use an AV, Avast would be my recommendation 5 Don't bother with software firewalls, get a linksys router and do it properly 6 Do online scans once a month to make sure your AV is doing its job. Thorin
i am using AVG and avast and still nothing Don't use two anti-virus programs at once, you'll get no end of problems when they're both set to do on access scanning.
