Carl_S
I'm not going to start making loads of polls again etc, just allow me this one in three odd months of not starting threads. Been agonised what class I am in the british class structure, and I have decided that I am middle class becuase I speak well, and went to public school, and have education as a core value. What class are you and why?
Ewen
I cant vote, you havent included upper class as an option. Why are you 'agonising' over this ? The class structure is meaningless these days, it will only end in tears.

What about the idea of proprinquity (dont know if i have spelt that right) and poor old michael martin, working class speaker of the house of commons. I think it still has some meaning, but you're right in that if you want to open a door these days, all you need to do is push it hard enough. jamesmark
Who cares? If you think you're middle class then so what! Are all humans in this day of age not meant to be equal Carl? Rather than seperate people. This thread is just pure snobery and as Ewean has said too, the class structure is meaningless. Just because people went to private school, had a good upbringing does not automaticly include them in a so called classes.

Ewen
Proprinquity. Give a Lord 20 pints of Stella and watch him turn into a Kacker ? Maybe credit rating is the current class system, regardless of birthright or education.

We all know that life isnt fair, and that some people get better chances than others, just becuase where there are born, and what school/uni they went to. It's a fact of life. We can and should continue to pass laws to make life fairer though. Maybe we want it to be meaningless, becuase its a bit embrassing in this day and age to still have one? I don't know. What do you think it takes to be middle class, or any other class for that matter. I'd say that drinking down the pub everyweek, not having gone to uni, and working in a manual job pretty much makes you working class. with my experience of life... (21 years) i only cansee one thing!! Rich people getting more richer day by day... working class struggling and will endup in lowest class.... prices going up!! cheapear labour getting in UK!!! i dont know.. but this is what i think!!! by the way im on working class, i work, pay taxes, loan for house, and live my life with the rest of my salary!!! Scooter
I have decided that I am middle class i agree with you because talking about class and where you do or don't fit in is a classic middle class trait..........
Ian R
For me in depends who I am socialising with and can mix it with the best of them. Can be down to earth when I want to be. However when a work I think people would see me as middle class. My family certainly is but I go against the grain somewhat

I wish I was, I can still work though (and do). I admire you: to be in work deserves some kind of respect. Working and being working class, they don't always go hand in hand though do they. Carl_S
What about Underclass? Didnt include it. Just to focus the vote more. Also people would have used it as a protest vote i agree with you because talking about class and where you do or don't fit in is a classic middle class trait.......... Ah... Learnt something new today. For me in depends who I am socialising with and can mix it with the best of them. Can be down to earth when I want to be. However when a work I think people would see me as middle class. My family certainly is but I go against the grain somewhat Just wondering, is it possible to have middle class parents and have been brought up in that environment, and yet be working class yourself. I'd say it was impossible. Or just very very unlikely.
colsoop
I am human class. We all wipe our backsides the same way and have the same basic needs anything that elevates somebody above another is just for an ego boost in my mind

Is ego boost wrong? Driving a supe is partly ego boost right? Its not what you say so much its how you say it right? If I say im middle class, it doesnt mean I'm elevating myself does it? But if it does then its not so bad either... Whos that labour guy, an ex postman? I think he always says that he's working class.

I was using the most basic thing we do as an idea, not the method used My Supra is for pleasure not for ego I don't think class is a good thing somebody saying i am this or i am that, you are nothing more than anyone else regardless of wealth, salary even though mnost people think the opposite but class makes people feel like you have a place in society so it will always be used. kslb
Class is a state of mind! A lot of people try and use class to their benefit like politicians saying they are working class or come from a working class background to try and improve the publics opinion of them. It has just become something to use either in your defence or to your advantage in any given situation, it has become meaningless. It is only important to those who wish to use it to pigoen hole others in order to elevate themselves one way or another.
