imi
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/7292932.stm This is quite interesting.... "Whilst there are technical reasons why a consumer may not get the full speed of the package to which they have signed up the key point is that consumers should be able to make an informed decision about what broadband package is best for them at the point of purchase." Why do they market it as 8MB if they can hardly deliver a service at the advertised speed?
Thorin
Why do they market it as 8MB if they can hardly deliver a service at the advertised speed? They don't. They market it as up to 8MB.
michael
They don't. They market it as up to 8MB. Indeed, nail, head, hit.
imi
They don't. They market it as up to 8MB. Dont you think its a bit of a misnomer when only 15% of the people actually see those speeds...
Matt H
Aye, it is a bit of a "legal scam"

No. It's the maximum possible with that package. 512K still falls under up to 8MB.

Marco
I usually get around 7MB but sometimes it drops down to 2.5MB in weekends...

Pot
In all fairness to BT, when you phone up they do a check and say what you can expect to get, in my case (I've just switched to BT), they said I should expect to regularly see 3mb, which is what I'd expected, and I'm getting around 3.5 so I'm happy enough (Considering I'm quite a way from the exchange)
Gaz6002
It's not BTs fault people don't understand what they are buying. LOL.

Pete
Funny thing is nobody gets 8Mb. Unless you're plugged directly into the exchange that is. Why anyone thinks their dreadful 20 year old+ copper wiring should support the latest high speed digital communication is beyond me. If you want to go any faster at home you're only real option is cable. It'll be interesting to see how the 21st century network roll out goes. Exactly, but they're making millions from the clueless people they've got signed up that don't have a clue about technology, so what's their incentive to upgrade?... After all Mr and Mrs Dumbfcuk don't care about DLing movies in HD "you can expect to get up to 8mb sir" They're not 'really' doing that though (And yes I do think you were joking) - It was refreshing for them to check and give an accurate description of what I could get, and suprising too It's not BTs fault people don't understand what they are buying. 6 of one, 1/2 a dozen of another I think, if I go to Argos tomorrow to buy a blender, should I expect the shop assistant to tell me not to put my hand in it?... Pot
If you're 6... yes. My point is, if you buy something, no matter what the marketing says, one should also research it first... I've learnt the hard way, I bought a NA manual without driving an Auto TT ... lol
