Guest cliogerbil
Hi guys I was just wondering. Are all Supra Bonnets Plastic? mine appears to be. I was going to buy a Carbon one and get it painted but it seems very light anyway. cheers Russ
Digsy
The stock bonnet is aluminium. Most Aftermarket ones will be glass fibre, plastic or carbon fibre.
Lukeyboy2k
I believe standard Supra bonnets are made from aluminium and weigh in the region of 13kg. Most "carbon" bonnets don't save much weight.
Guest cliogerbil
oh right thats why its light then. I was gonna say..lol Its definately not as light as carbon fibre but it does seem to have a non metal noise to it when you tap it. I'll have to have a look around underneath to see if it is plastic or not. what do people think to the carbon fibre doorcards on ebay from the USA? Chris Wilson
Most of the carbon bonnets for Supras and Skylines I have come across weigh MORE than the stock alloy one, don't fit as well and have iffy hood latching and hinge arrangements. Apart from that they make a great, very expensive mod Don't paint them though, that shows up the appalling moulds some of them come out of, a gloss finish accentuates their waveyness

Guest cliogerbil
I've enquired about delivery. Just waiting for a reply back. Anyone fancy a group buy for a decent price?
Angarak
If your going to do a GB, it may be worth while getting a spare set of panels and having them made in the UK. I know a lot of Lancia and Alfa owners who have bought composite panels from the likes of Italy, Germany and Poland (to name a few) that have in most cases found the quality to be utter cr*p, which they either have to fork out more money getting them 'corrected' at a body shop or go through the hassle of shipping them back and getting a replacement set or refund. Im not saying the US ones are cr*p (they look really good in the pic), just pointing out the hassle of getting something 'delicate' from outside the UK that may be disappointing when you recieve it. However is bloody expensive when compaired to other bonnets
