Steve,

It's fairly straight forward if you have a budget in mind one of us could probably recommend the necessary compatible parts. From there it's a case of putting it all together and then getting Windows on it.

Like most things once you've done it a few times it becomes really straight forwards, but if you've got no-one to show you it's going to be a steep learning curve.

To be honest I would look at deals they have on the Dell website as they're generally very good value for money.

Yep i second that. At least with dell you can pick and choose what you want without the hassle of messing it up when installing the components!

I spend most of my time fixing dell machines, blimming things (not starting any sort of argument or flame session). Try Novatech.co.uk, they do some good deals and even do a nice barebones setup that would take alot of hassle out of building your first machine.

If your even luckier there must be a supra computer geek on here that lives near you that can help you build it :)

Also overclockers.co.uk do some good quality gear, otherwise Ebuyer.co.uk do some cheaper quality gear if your on a tight budget.

if u want it purely for games, do yourself a favour and get a ps3 or xbox360.

You don't have the hassle of checking if a game will work on your spec PC, you don't (generally) need to upgrade anything to get it to work, you just bung it in and off it goes.

Novatech do indeed do some good "kits", its how i build my desktop 2 years ago, and its still going strong :D

They come with some simple to follow instructions and a big pin out picture of the board, telling you in simple terms where everything is located.

Onc eyou have the bits, its like a lego set

I have to agree to some extent - I also spend quite a while fixing Dell machines - but for me it's faults caused by user error, or malware.

Plus I think the market is fairly flooded with Dell kit, hence why they seem to appear more often on the workbench.
