TOOTHACHE - Ahhhhhhhhhhhh

SILKYSMOOTH

Recommended Posts

I have been suffering from a toothache since yesterday evening and I have not slept yet, Just booked an emergency appointment with the dentist for 11.am today.

I have had so many pills since last night and half a bottle of clove oil and the pain is still here. My head is going to explode I have such a headache from the toothache pounding.

Toothache is the worst ever

What else can I do to stop the pain?

I had exactly the same thing last week - pain in my wisdom tooth stopped me sleeping for 3 days, and I got (what I thought was) a cold at the same time.

As it turned out, it wasn't actually a toothache at all - it was sinusitis! Apparently, the back teeth are rooted into the sinus area, which means an infection in one will affect the other.....

But you have my sympathy - the pain on top of the sleeplessness just saps all the will out of you. Stick with it, mate - whether it's a dental issue or something else (like mine), someone will sort you out!

It's one of the top ones near the back which is causing the pain, I know which one it is, it's making the whole area throb with pain, I think I have had a tiny filling in that one and maybe its come out, not sure have to wait to get to the dentist. The next hour will seem so far away when you are suffering with god knows how many pulsating aches per minute. Roll on 11am.

Thanks Guys

P.S Another little trick I use to stop the pain is, to place your head underneath a very cold running tap and let it run over your head for a while.

Just got back from the dentist and not good news.

After the X-ray, it was concluded that I have an infection from possible decay underneath the filling, so she couldnt do anything about it but give me some anti-biotics for the next week, and looks like it's going to have some Route Canal Treatment next week, and to top it off she said the one next to it may have to come out.....:taped: even though it looks fine to me. Which could cost me £2000 to replace with an implant...:taped:

She did'nt even give me anything to numb the pain so I am still in the same excrushiating pain as before, I hope these anti-biotics kick in quick, she said it could take upto 2-3 days.

Glad to hear your all better :) Man......Toothache is really the worst physical pain I have ever experienced in life, and I usually don't feel pain.

Your right about keeping calm though, you have to try and relax and forget about it and just phase it out, just my head is pounding, maybe some sleep would help.

Bunch of invalids at the moment..my girlfirend just got back from abroad and she was a little ill with flu type symptoms she is still not well either, the night before, she had ear ache from the air pressue from the descent of the aeroplane and that hurts too, it was dificult keeping her calm through the pain.

JUST HAVE TO SOLDIER ON

never found clove oil worked for me, i used to use that bonjela stuff directly on the gum it took it off for abit

That might be a good idea, for a temporary solution until the anti-biotics kick in, plus never had that before, I don't usually take pills for anything, except for these kind of situations. Don't know if it will make a difference though coz the dentist said that it's hitting the nerve.

I find some whisky swirled in the mouth around the sore tooth helps ;)

And the strongest Ibruprofen you can find .

Thats a good one, I might be tempted to swallow it though which is not advisable when taking anti-biotics......I think I will end up trying everyones suggestions in the thread at some point.

Also crush some Ibruprofen and Paracetomol together and rub it in with my finger.

The whisky will numb it for a while mate , hopefully long enough for you to fall asleep at least . Good luck with it , i wouldnt wish bad toothache on anyone :( been there myself .

Just tried a bit of Johnie Walker - Red Lable - stings but numbing sensation. Will it make any difference with a different type of Whisky;)

Had exactly the same thing a few weeks back, infection under the tooth causing excrutiating toothache! Anti-biotics sorted it. Amoxocillin? Its only a quick fix, but will help you get to sleep, 5 teaspoons of salt into a half pint glass, fill with cold water, and swill it around your mouth for 2 minutes. Tastes like strong sea water but does the trick.

This tip is working well. thats what they gave me too Amoxicillin 500g 3 x a day.

Pain is still there but settled at the moment so thats  hopefully the anti-biotics will kill the infection soon and at least no more pain.

Just a thought. It might be worth a phone call to your local (if you have one) uni.

I have just been added to the patient list at the dentistry uni in leeds and having a substantial amount of work done (in excess of £3k worth of work if I went private) done for nothing.

you have to fit around student timetables but by the time its all done I will be fully sorted and it wont of cost a bean!

I graduated in 1998 so 'uni' is out of the question, but a good idea. I have a feeling I will be going abroad to get everything I need sorted out, probably get it cheaper and better quality work, but maybe I will let them do the prep work here first.

This'll distract you from the pain. You know the U2 song Hold Me Thrill Me Kiss Me Kill Me, well someone's released a parody version called Numb Me Drill Me Floss Me Bill Me. Guess what the theme is... :D

(apologies if this has been going around the internet for the last x years, I heard it for the first time 2 days ago). :)
