juanchan
I think Nicholas took some unnecessary stick then TBH I wouldn't normally comment, but I'm afraid after comments like.... after all my outgoings im left with around half a grand a month ...I'd say the stick was about spot on. How can you have no money and yet have £500 spare cash every month? People have mentioned mortgages being somewhat financially crippling, but I know that people renting in my building are paying £200 a month more in rent than my mortgage costs me. Granted, I have little savings anymore as I was stretched getting a deposit together, but £200/month is a huge amount of money to me! Throw away comments like "I only have £500 to pi$$ up the wall every month" are unlikely to get any positive/constructive reponses IMO. Matt H
in 2 years time, i'd absolutely love to be on £40k p/a, cant see it happening though, London is more pricey and the wages are higher than up north but still, at 26 thats a great wage
Guest Nicholas
Whats you fuel and tube bill work out a month? i bet thats a decent chunk of your wages gone. Works out at around the £600 mark mate. Because I own a single turbo supra, by outgoings I mean mortgage/bills not my hobbies... If I meet the local's for a play one weekend thats easily £180+ on V power not to mention fixing what breaks. I dont want to get into an argument over the situation because I really dont think Nicholas was showing off with his earnings of 40K, I do question anyone on this forum pointing at another member and accusing them of saying look at me and my money when we all own and drive expensive money eating flashy sports cars that scream look at me and how much money I spend on my car ! Ah, you didn't mention that bit before I class Supra running costs as a guaranteed outgoing every month y'see I dont want to get into an argument over the situation because I really dont think Nicholas was showing off with his earnings of 40K, I do question anyone on this forum pointing at another member and accusing them of saying look at me and my money when we all own and drive expensive money eating flashy sports cars that scream look at me and how much money I spend on my car ! My apologies, I wasn't attempting to incite an argument. It was probably the way I interpretted Nicholas' earlier comments.

I'm on a good wage for my age, but not 40k. Would be on my second if my mate didnt decide to pull out at the last minute in december. Deposit paid, solictors paid, then he decides he didnt think he could quite afford it! Anyway, I did have another house, it was a project of mine, talked about it quite a bit on the forum, think i might have put a thread up about it when i sold it last jan. Bought it as a hole, pretty manky place, gutted it, did every room up then sold it on for a great profit.. hard work mind but will do it again when i find the right place again

China Man
Credit is evil, especially credit card or high interest loans If you buy things that you cannot afford at that time you have to pay the bank or lender interest. So they make money out of you. I have a mortgage and a loan for the supra and thats it, anymore is just asking for trouble..
bmx1lew
come to think of it yes 40k a year is mint but as you said london is expensive as... but i think allot of people are forget the tax code for that wage, my mate works for bt and hes on 43k, he has had to set himself up as his own business to reduce tax also in london i would imadgin council tax to be higher. Marty
Im on similar to Nick, at 26, with my own pad, without a mortgage, and all my money seems to disappear too. I do have a small loan for some of the work that was carried out to my car, say, 6k, but thats about it, apart from the usual gas, elec, council tax bills that everyone pays. If i have money, i spend it, im not one for admiring numbers on a bank screen, you only live once at the end of the day. The banks and credit companys are evil now a days, credit is way too easy to get and a lot of young people are going in to lots of debt because of it, living way beyond their means, and paying for it in the end. tbourner
How can you have no money and yet have £500 spare cash every month? After we've paid all the major bills and stuff, we have £100 a week between us which has to pay for all our shopping, petrol and any going out we want to do. I've got about that a month as truly "spare" cash, but I include any money I spend on the cars and a token amount into savings as part of my "monthly outgoings", otherwise insurance would be a bit of a sting every 12 months! marbleapple
My debt after law school is in the region of 40k but I have just been granted a mortgage of 249,999.... Lending may be bad but it is my friend at the moment.

and1c
Wow! These numbers some of you guys are living on each month (after outgoings) are crazy! Im not sure how you manage to run a Supra on it put it that way! hats off to you I feel sorry for folks with a hefty variable rate mortgage... not good news with the current economy Im just glad for a change of being that bit older than some (32) and having managed to buy a nice house quite a few years ago when properties were much more sensibly priced
RiceRocket
hopefully the house prices will dip in about 5 years It's already started http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/7336010.stm
mathew
It's already started http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/7336010.stm i think the drop in prices is more visible in the bigger cities as the prices certainly havnt dropped here. also a drop of 2.5% isnt that big when the value of mine is taken into account. Gazboy
There's been a massive hit in prices here (Wycombe). Some of the houses I've had my eye on have asking prices £50k lower than a few months ago.

Guest Jarl Ayari
My wife is on 11.5k and I am on about 24k, we have 2k owing on a credit card and a 55k mortgage. We dont stuggle per se, but we could be easier on ourselves. We eat out a lot, have some luxuries like broadband and sky+. Add to that house insurance, contents insurance, 2 lots of car insurance with her being a new driver, 2 mobile phones, house phone, council tax, water, stupidly high electric. We havent to my knowledge yet had a week since she started working last may where we havent had to spend out on something thats needed doing. Wheeling and dealing gets me what I want, not going to work Andi
