JamieP
Some my disagree but this is my opinion, dont overlook Beaconsfield, best place in bucks to live imo, very nice area and great little town for nights out:) hayes 1.2m non mway 5mins not a great area imo hilingdon 2.4m non mway 9mins not great imo uxbridge 3.9m non mway 11mins not great imo iver 4.7m non mway 14mins nice area ickenham 5.3m non mway 16mins dont know it denham 5.9m non mway 18mins nice area ealing 7.3m non mway 21mins dont know it windsor 12.4m mway 22mins very nice gerrards cross 9.1m non mway 23mins very very nice chalfront st peter 10m non mway 24mins very nice stoke poges 10.4m non mway 26mins very nice
Homer
I agree with Jamie, the last 4 are all very nice areas and certainly the best options from the list. They are also very expensive! Edit to add - I would stay away from Ealing, some say it's okay, but I really wouldn't like to live there
tDR
To be honest, there's not a huge deal of difference between them all price wise for renting a modern 2-bed apartment. All of them have such places in the £1,000 - £1,200 PCM bracket. I like the idea of as short a commute as possible hence looking at Hayes in particular, any reviews of the area I've seen are positive and it's right on the doorstep for my work. Anyone know anything personally on that area? Cheers, Brian.
JamieP
We use to do a lot of work in Hayes, trust me you wont like it.
Guest Nutk1n
I used to live in southal for cheap accomodation enar uxbridge, then i got a house down the M4 in wokingham and now commute to my uni in uxbridge. OH YES there is a University in uxbridge so its cheap drinks and bars galore, bu8t dont go clubbing there. Stockley Park isnt really in uxbridge itself but is just on the outskirts so you could easily live down the M4 a way and have an easy commute, lots of little villages, bu8t may be a bit strong on petrol in the supra. If you want a nice flat there are some nice ones in West Drayton over the canal with a nice easy route through to stockley park
Branners
Depending on the route it can be easier to commute out from London to Stockley Park. Its right by heathrow on the M4 so its a busy junction to get off at. Feltham might also be possible but means coming under the M4 at rush hour which is always fun. Good luck with the new job and house hunting. Theres loads of members around that bit of London so do ask for advice and help if needs be. tDR
OK will check out West Drayton, just did a quick search and looks like some decent places so again depends on whether I like the area. Updated shortlist: hayes 1.2m non mway 5mins hilingdon 2.4m non mway 9mins uxbridge 3.9m non mway 11mins west drayton 3.6m non mway 12mins iver 4.7m non mway 14mins ickenham 5.3m non mway 16mins denham 5.9m non mway 18mins ealing 7.3m non mway 21mins windsor 12.4m mway 22mins gerrards cross 9.1m non mway 23mins chalfront st peter 10m non mway 24mins stoke poges 10.4m non mway 26mins
JamieP
Some bits of west drayton aint to bad but its a bit of a chavy sort of place, i have a deep hate for the place as ive crashed two motorbikes in that high street.

The apartments all seem to be in nice looking waterfront type developments and from pics have decent size rooms - apartments in some of the other areas look quite small in that department. Will have a better idea after next weekend!
Jive
To cut a long story short I've been headhunted by a datacentre company . . . As soon as I read that line, I just knew you were going to be talking about Rackspace Me and my boss were in Stockley Park for a meeting with them. Got shown around their offices (some hot totty there ) and also taken round their Datacentre (due for relocation soon). Certainly looks a good company to work for and they're going through a massive expansion in people ... hope everything works out well for you tDR Can't comment on the surrounding area as I'm down in Southampton
hogmaw
When considering your move you might want to consider whether or not you will be under the flight path from Heathrow
tDR
When considering your move you might want to consider whether or not you will be under the flight path from Heathrow Yeah - I checked that for both West Drayton and Hayes - neither of them are. Thanks Jive
tDR
Well.... little bit of an update on this: I did go down and explore the different areas - as you all said it was very much night and day with a lot of them. Windsor and Gerrards cross were among my favourites BUT.... some interesting events also unfolded that weekend - cut to the chase I was offered a job to stay in Scotland based from home as a Technical Account Manager (presales technical role) working for the very vendor who's product suite I've worked closely with for the past 4 years - CommVault. They heard I had resigned from the reseller I was working for (couldn't approach me before) and saw me as fair game, poaching me from Rackspace after I extended my stay down south into the Monday to meet up with their European head guys at their Reading UK HQ - it all went very well and 3hrs of chat later we shook on it and that was that. It's a good wee bit more money again (!!!) and money goes a lot further in Scotland. With hindsight it was a bit of a no brainer but at the time it was a very tough decision weighing up the pros and cons of each role on offer. So thank you all very much for your valuable help and input but it would appear I'm staying the resident token jock mod for now Cheers, Brian. I'll no doubt be more 'nationally mobile' in the coming months so we should be able to tie up at some point!
