hogmaw Posted March 19, 2008 Share Posted March 19, 2008 TBH a commute along Uxbridge Rd will be stop start as there are a lot of lights and it's a busy area, you would be a lot better off going along the A40 if possible. As for Ealing, it's just a bit more upmarket than Uxbridge. It has a proper town centre, easy to get to A40 and M4, is on the Central & District lines (rail takes 6 mins to get to Paddington), it's leafy and has a wide range of properties from Victorian to modern, from the average to millionaires hide-aways. IMO anyway! TDR - I would consider living outside the m25 and commuting, you will have a much better quality of life and be able to afford something much nicer. I did the 'North to South' move about 10 years ago and I think it was one of the best decisions I ever made - theres a real sense of acceleration here in terms of business and careers etc... Also worth noting property prices may dip a little more in the next few months, if your move is going to be in the next 3 months get a mortgage decision in principal which is valid for 3 months as I have a feeling that mortgages will be getting pricier HTH FAR Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

TBH I think after my free 2 months accomodation is up, I'll rent so I can sit back and see how our economy going down the shitter affects house prices down London way where they're most overpriced. As already said you'll have a shock with property prices - have a good think about how far you are willing to commute each day and how you intend to do that? movistar Posted March 19, 2008 Share Posted March 19, 2008 Ahh Stockley Park,have fond memorys of that place, there is a big roundabout on the entrance and on a friday night we use to get about 2000 bikes meet up there for the evening hooning:d all finished now, the police put a stop to it. Arhh i remember that i was their too..my first knee down action their b4 the ride to the chelsea cruise. Anyhow i was bought up in Ruislip and lived there for 20 odd years, it was a great place to be then but like most places around uxbridge it has got a lot busier as time has gone by..its about 15mins from uxbridge. If your budget can stretch look into windsor, sunninghill, datchet, ascot, virginia waters etc, they are all have access to M4 and A4 and numerous back roads which can get to Stockley easily. Considering the average yearly income is supposedly £22k / year giving a joint of £44k if you have a partner. Add say £5k each London allowance, itself already there mainly for the stupid house prices, and you have £54k joint income. If you then go on the rule of thumb being 3x joint income for a mortgage that gives you potentially £162,000 of buying power based on a 100% mortgage (very hard to get in the current climate). Given that a 2bed property of any type is typically between £200k - £250k around where I'm looking there's a pretty large disparity there! The sums just don't add up. I can only forsee values dropping.... I don't see Scotland dropping considering the £44k joint income (no London allowance) average gives you £132,000 buying power to play with which is pretty much spot on for the same kind of property. tDR Posted April 11, 2008 Author Share Posted April 11, 2008 Well, I handed in my notice at current place of work on my first day back from holiday on Tuesday there. My boss was OK about it and asked if there was anything they could do to keep me - I just said it's a good opportunity for me career wise etc. not just about the money so had made my mind up I was going. He asked about what they'd be paying me and soon went quiet saying he was sad to see me go and didn't blame me! So I think at least I've not burned my bridges - always try to leave things on a good note because it's such a small world in IT especially in Scotland. Now planning to visit Uxbridge & surrounding areas next weekend with my other half - gonna fly down and rent a car. Where should we be looking at first for reasonable places to rent - nice 2 bed apartments and houses, that kind of thing.
