Moving to Uxbridge (West London Outskirts)

To cut a long story short I've been headhunted by a datacentre company down there to do what I do for them rather than remaining in Scotland as a Consultant out and about. It's double my current salary and they look a decent outfit to work for being a global company......

..... which brings me onto what's life like in and around Uxbridge? Any areas I should be looking close by that would be good to live in? Housing wise I don't want to strangle myself being mortgaged to the hilt but to give an idea our joint income will be c£90k

Perhaps there's a nice area small village or rural style place close by that doesn't cost the earth??

Cheers,

Brian.

Its a fair way from London, (about 15 miles or so) and is quite a nice place, it has some major employers in the area (coca cola etc) and the average wage in the area is quite high, the house prices are very expensive and you may be wise to commute into the town from a bit further away, unfortunatly there is not much in the way of cheap housing in west london outskirts, You do have the luxury of a good income however, and with the credit crunch at the moment its a good time to buy

I live in beaconsfield, only 10min from uxbridge, uxbridge is a big town has its good and bad areas, some very nice smaller villages/towns all around such as beaconsfield/farnham common/ Hedgerley/ stoke poges/ gerrards cross..

If you need any help or just fancy meeting up for a beer give me a shout:)

Cheers guys - might take u up on that Jamie :)

The company I'm going to work for is in Stockley Park, Uxbridge and is called Rackspace.

Ahh Stockley Park, have fond memorys of that place, there is a big roundabout on the entrance and on a friday night we use to get about 2000 bikes meet up there for the evening hooning:d all finished now, the police put a stop to it.

Wasnt that due to a biker coming off and hitting a car or truck coming the other way.

You still get the small groups meet up down there every now and then but nothing like it use to be.

I'm 10 minute's from there in Northolt (Wouldn't look for a place round here though lol) & my sister lives in Hairfield which is 2minutes away nice lil village with not much trouble to tbh but for nice places to live with not too much traveling to stockley park I'd choose either Iver, farnham common, beaconsfield but you wont get anything to nice in Uxbridge for little money imho

However I do have a few friends who are estate agents in & around this area & can ask them for suggestions if you like? :)

Yeah that'd be good - thanks!

Thanks for all the suggestions folks - I'll get searching the areas mentioned in this thread. Luckily I'm getting 2 months free stay in one of their corporate houses they normally put their American VP's up in as part of my relocation deal so should be able to get a feel of where I want to stay and what I can afford in that time :)

Cheers,

We were thinking of Uxbridge just a couple of weeks ago as we need somewhere bigger than what we have here in Ealing. So we drove around the place and were not impressed to put it bluntly. There are a few OK houses but the area itself isn't all that. The only thing going for it is that it is easy to get into London and onto the M25 ie easy to get out of there!

So we're staying put in Ealing and finding another place round here.

Just google map'd Ealing and it's a 7 mile drive from where I'd be working along the Uxbridge road - doesn't look a bad commute, what's Ealing got going for it that makes you prefer it?

Also spotted Hayes is right next to Uxbridge - any good?
